I have purchased a new HP 15-BA025AU from JB Hi-Fi and it seems to have multiple issues on startup. For the record it is a brand new boxed model and not secondhand or floor model.
1. Chiefly the touchpad (not the touchscreen) is erratic and has poor sensitivity. Examples
- it will take 2-3 finger swipes to get the cursor to move from one side of the screen to the other
- It has poor response time to picking up my finger on the touchpad, I usually have to press and hold my finger or tap one or twice to get the cursor to move
- The worst issue is that the cursor is often very erratic in its movement, for instance if I move my finger left along the touchpad the cursor will freeze or jump right instead, sometimes it will even jump all over the screen
- The tap function of the touchpad rarely works, by this I mean to click without using the click buttons beneath the touchpad
2. The computer crashes frequently with no warning. I am not using it heavily at all, in fact I rarely have more than 1 chrome webpage up at a time. It has crashed from me just trying to write this report. I would estimate it crashes 1-2 every hour. The message that comes up after restarting is, "Default Radeon WattMan settings have been restored due to an unexpected system failure."
3. The ba025au is very slow. I previously had a HP 15-d011TU which had half the RAM (4 rather than 8), a weaker processor, and a HDD rather than an SDD and yet it was much quicker and more powerful than this laptop seems to be. I didn't buy this laptop for gaming or media or anything like that but it can't even manage a single chrome page without either freezing, crashing or just performing very sluggishly. I will note that it does boot up reasonably quickly but not the 2 seconds as advertised more like 5-10 (this is not an issue for me just an indication of possible issues). This laptop is also surprisingly loud for such a small computer, especially when it is totally inactive. The d011tu was fairly quiet even when under heavy use.
I have searched online for solutions and have found none that have helped, I have followed the HP troubleshooters that seemed applicable to my issues and they have not resolved anything. I have run a quick and extensive BIOS scan and both have reported no issues at all. I have also updated all the drivers I could find but again there was no change.
I would appreciate any help with this matter as it has been a week since I picked up the computer form the store and at this point it is unusuable and will need to be returned which will have me without a computer for work for weeks or possibly months.
