HP 15-AC014TU monitor suddenly turns off

Hello.
2 weeks ago I bought a laptop HP 15-AC014TU. Everything works fine, except in three occasions in which the monitor turned completely white and then, a few seconds later, completely black.
On the first time it returned to normal operation after 2 minutes, but the last two times I had to reboot.
The computer was still running and I could hear system sounds when the monitor goes off.

In all the times I was doing simple tasks: reading a PDF document, watching a video on google chrome, etc

One bad pixel

This is a brand new (2 week old) laptop. I noticed about a week ago while poking around getting to know windows 10 that a bad pixel toward the top left portion of the display is present. Working as an IT person in Educational Technology it has been my experience that pixel problems typically get worse, have never seen one stay the same or just poof fix itself. More often then not I usually have to have the display replaced on machines that are still under warranty. What's the easiest steps/procedures to have my bad display replaced. My laptop is under warranty for 1 year parts and labor.

Thanks!

We just unpacked and installed a new HP Envy 13-j020nd x2. After having the battery charged to full, the display starts flickering as soon as we remove the powercable. It's steady again when we connect the power cable again. Playing with brightness settings or bacjground images didn't do the trick. Any suggestions or solutions are warmly welcomed.

I wish to remove the desktop search bar off of my laptop

When I start up my computer it comes up with a search bar up the top with quick links to Facebook, Internet Radio - 8tracks, and Youtube. If I open a web browser it blocks off my task bar and I can't click on any tabs. Is there any way I can remove it? Or at least keep it in the background when I open apps or a web browser? I can't even press the cross to close things because the search bar is in the way.

groups of four black rectangles

I have a HP Pavilion DV6-3108EA running Win 7 SP1.  Recently I have had problems with the display screen.  Groups of four black rectangles have started to appear unpredicatably on top of application windows such as my browser but also on the desktop screen.  On the desktop screen I can get rid of them by picking up an icon and moving across the offending areas which causes them to re-paint correctly.  So far so good.

Experiementing a little, I switched to the power saving graphics.  This laptop features two graphics drivers - either high performance ATI Radeon graphics or the lower performance Intel graphics.  Switching to low power graphics seemed to sort the problem.  Having resigned myself to using the Intel power saving graphics I figured that there must be a fault either in the ATI hardware or drivers.  BUT, read on ... the mystery deepens.

A bit more detail on these groups of four little black rectangles.  They are 16 pixcels wide, 8 pixcels high and each group is aligned vertically with 8 pixcel spacing between them.   There seems to be some pattern between the groups of four but they are not vertically aligned - instead the next one might be further down the screen and offset a little to the left.

The next thing that happened was that my hard disk failed comprehensively.  Sigh!!  With some re-build discs bought from HP and some help from HP (for whom kudos for helping me through a rebuild problem) I got the laptop back working with a nice new Samsung 500Gb SSD - and I can recommend the SSD, it's fast.  Anyway that's almost by the way.

Having got Win 7 reinstalled to factory status, there was suddenly no problem with these little black rectangles.  Hmmm ... could it be a driver or Windows problem?

The next step of course was to grind through the innumerable Windows updates that the laptop was now eager to install.  I was kind of eager too to get it up to a status where I can install Win 10.  After many adventures with Win 7 updates (some failed updates which seemed to owe a lot to Windows over ambitious plans to install up to 200 updates in one go - which I circumvented eventually) I have got back to a status where the laptop is in condition to go for Win 10 update - and it has been downloading in background for over 72 hours now, first on my brothers 100Mb internet and now on my 3.5Mb internet.  Anyway,  I digress again.

Having got all the updates done and restored all my files etc from my backups those darn rectangles are back.  Switching to Intel power saving graphics once again gets me working without this annoyance.

Somewhere I read it could be a temperature problem with the ATI chip - so I checked with Speccy which reports temperatures around 40 - 45 C which is surely OK.  And why would the problem not manifest straight after a clean build to factory condition?  So I'm wondering whether this is a Win 7 induced problem or perhaps just an issue with an out of date display driver no longer compatible with the present Win 7 updates evolution.

Have any of you guys experienced this problem?  Did you find out how to solve it?

I'm tempted to search for an ATI driver update but given that Win 10 is hopefully about to offer to do the update I'm also thinking maybe I just need to hold off for a little longer.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

HP 15 Notebook display issues after Windows 10 upgrade

Product Name: HP Notebook - 15t-r100 CTO (Energy Star)

Product Number: J4C05AV

Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

The laptop is hooked up via HDMI to two video monitors.  It boots up in "Extend" mode for video display.  After upgrading to Windows 10, the main computer screen goes black, while the video monitor screens show the display as normal.  Switching through the display options, I've found that switching to "Duplicate" mode shows the display on both the computer and monitors as normal, switching to "Second Screen Only" shows just the monitors, and switching to "PC Screen Only" mode results in a black screen on the computer screen as well as the monitors.  Or in other words, using either of the modes that should give an image on the main computer screen, yields a black screen on the computer.  I also found that if I put the computer into Sleep mode, then wake it up, the problem goes away.

I tried booting up the computer with the HDMI cable detached, but got the same result.  Black computer screen after start up, then I manually entered Sleep mode, and screen was active after wake up.

After looking at some of the troubleshooting documentation, I tried updating my video display drivers.  But the result was that they were already up to date.  Not sure what else I can do.

Pavilion 15-p262nd touchscreen

Hi All,

Recently I bought a HP Pavilion15-p262nd laptop at an auction.

It was almost brand new, but came in an opened box and upgrade to Windows 10 was already done.

On the HP site and on some papers that came with it, it is suggested that the laptop has a touch screen.

Windows 10 does not detect it..

How to turn it on?

Thanks

Eric

[8460p, windows 10] ambient light sensor, brightness control

$

Hi

it looks like Windows 10 isn't (yet?) officially supported for my Elitebook 8460p.

I tried installing anyway and everything went smoothly, except I have poor brightness control for the display.

Till yesterday I had just two settings: maximum and somewhat low brightness. Now I can change it more smoothly from low to maximum, I think after updating the Intel MEI driver. BUT the brightness setting is not on pair with the windows slider (in the power or display options), and it looks like there are two programs fighting to set the brightness value, since it "flickers" when I'm changing it. And it's not the ambient light sensor fault, I checked. The display backlight flashes when setting a brightness level.

This is tolerable now (having just two settings was not!), but the FN hotkeys won't work, and the ambient light sensor won't work either!

Now..

regarding the hotkeys, I tried installing different version of the hotkey driver (4.5 and 5.0). I managed to get the hpHotkeyMonitor service up and running, and the volume control overlay is working. So.. maybe the hotkey service works, but it sends the commands to the wrong device, or the device is not there to get them. I think it's the latter.

I think the problem stems from some driver which could be related to the chipset or the graphic processor. Am I wrong?

Intel provides no graphic drivers for windows 10 for its HD3000 gpus, and they say (here, comment 27: https://communities.intel.com/thread/61432?start=15&tstart=0) that that's because HP didn't test the notebook for Windows 10 (poor excuse, if you ask me). Anyway the old Windows 8.1 drivers work just fine in all compartmetns, except maybe the brightness control.

Do you have any suggestion on how to solve this issue?

Can HP provide updated versions of the Hotkey support driver tested with Windows 10?

Can HP test Windows 10 on an 8460p Elitebook and work with Intel on updated version of whichever driver may need to be updated (chipset/graphics)?

Thank you very much for your time and work

Kind regards
