Before purchasing the new touchsmart envy 17 i called sales who confirmed it was full hd resolution 1920x1080 (the website doesn't state it).
The box also stated "Full HD".
However having switched on the machine the highest available resolution is 1600x900 ?
Can you advise or help?

i have a HP laptop Model number dv6-6127cl
Some time ago now it started to have two issues.
Issue1: When i power up the computer i see the "Starting Windows" disply on the laptop screen then the screen goes blank. I connect an external monitor to the lap top and i can see the screen as it should be.........
What i found is that if i disable the graphics driver "Intel HD Graphics Family" and reboot....when computer comes back on the laptop display works just fine. I did some reading on the net and i did update the bios to the latest one on the hp site.
Any ideas on what to do?
Issue2: If i shut down the computer......leaving the laptop lid inthe "open" position. Allow the computer to shut down and then press the power button ........nothing happens.......laptop does not try and turn on. However, if i close the lide for minute or two and then open the lid and then press the power button computer powers up no problem...............

Dear HP,
My computer starts up, goes passed Windows screen, but then the screen goes black and my mouse cursor is usable, but nothing else. I've tried alt+ctrl+delete and nothing works, ran tests in diagnostics and they all passed, and when I start it up and it gives me the option to start Windows normally or go through system repair, the repair goes to a blue screen and says it cannot find the problem. I'm using Windows Vista and on the model/serial number on the bottom is:

Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? More specifically, I have a lot of pictures and videos on my laptop that I would like to retrieve, is there anyway to access them before a format or is the only solution to format my computer and re-install Windows on it? I've seen similar posts to this from a google search, but the solutions are all for Windows 7. One of the solutions was running a rescue CD and inputting commands in the command prompt, is there any way I could do something like that and not have to wipe my hard drive? I have hooked up my laptop to another monitor and the black screen with my mouse cursor appeared on the other monitor, so that's not the problem. Also, my cursor is not blinking, if that means anything (I saw problems that contained blinking cursors in my google search). The solution I found is linked below:

I am really disappointed, first I cannot find my product in any country, I bought my HP Pavilion g6-2228se in Egypt and I cannot find drivers or software update so easy, my problem is the video switching it does not do any switching which mean my amd video 7670 is almost idel and cannot be used, second I tried to install video driver from HP sight that has my poor product and now I recieve an error Catalyst Control Center: Host Application has stopped working, I did uninstall AMD install manager and install the latest driver from AMD or from HP site and zippo the same thing happened, so I have two problems lead to one NO DYNAMIC SWITCHING which is very annoying because I cannot run my program on high definition video??? please help

I can connect the PC to a monitor using a HDMI to DVi cable but not to my tv when using the same cable although when using a Mac Book Pro i am able to do both no worries. Whats wrong with my computer?

Two days ago I, the brightness was normal.

I'm not sure if this is a driver problem or a problem with my actual graphics card but when I play games now they are slower than usual, on counter strike: source I use to get 120FPS, now i get 35 FPS. every other game has also had problems and would like this problem to be dealt with as soon as possible.

I just bought a HP Envy TouchSmart 15t-j000.
I reinstalled my Windows 8 and I can only install the nvidia driver from the hp site.
The thing is that the installation isn't done correctly.
If I go to Nvidia Control Panel I only get the 3d settings option. Also if I disable the Intel HD Graphics 4600 from the Device Manager it is replaced by the generic windows driver although the NVidia driver is seen next to the Intel one.
I've read somewhere that I need to get into BIOS and change some display settings, but in the BIOS that comes with this laptop I can't change anything regarding video settings.
If I try to update the driver with Windows it says that the driver is up to date.
I've done all the Windows updates.
I'm not sure if the driver worked with the initial Windows. Can anyone confirm this? Also what should I try next? I'm really out of ideas..

I just installed a new version of windows 7 Home premium x86
when I wanted to install my display drivers the didn't work at all
I have got such problems like:

I downloaded every type of drivers (I used the AMD official website and even here I even updated them by windows) but still I've got the problem
So I used HP Support Assistant in order to troubleshoot and test my graphic card (or display)

It just took 1minute to give me this error:

I've had this laptop from new (in 2010) and the screen brightness function control keys have never worked.
All the other function keys work, its just the f2 and f3 (brightness down and up) that do not.
All the support updates (from the Netherlands HP site) have been installed.
Furthermore there are no brightness controls from within windows system settings either that would allow control over brightness using the mouse.
It would be great to have control of the screen brightness because the screen is really bright and it is unpleasant to use in any other circumstance than durring daytime!

I bought this laptop a little over a week ago to aid me in my uni studies. One of the main reasons for this purchase was to ensure I have gaming capabilities.
I am hardly a computer expert but have a solid knowledge of most basics.
The laptop is running on Windows 8 (64 bit), has an intel i7-3517u processor. It is thin so doesnt have CD drive so only option is to download off steam for games. Basically the downloads seem to go fine. I can run the games but regardless of how modern/ demanding they are; stuttering and sound issues take place. Its not necessarily frame rates but more like random slowdowns, its hard to describe.
The games I have tried are GT Legends, Race Injection, Raceroom racing experience and today Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge 2. They are hardly the most mainstream games but compatibility especially for the recent rugby game should be high for Windows 8, yet in the graphics setting it still only recognises Intel 4000.
I am aware of the switchable graphics catalyst center and have set all these games to high performance and had my laptop running plugged in but they stay on Intel 4000 graphics which are awful. I originally updated drivers and catalyst software but doing so seemed to make functionality disappear. I couldnt right click and configure graphics that way and all the ATI/AMD programs were in random formats so I did a system restore. I know about BIOS but that sounds risky and I am not quite sure how I access it. I have updated the graphics card driver directly through device manager on control panel as well.
Everytime I download and install the games it seems to leave my hard disk fragmented, it was at 15% fragmentation today so I have to constantly defragment for some reason. Whether downloading the games causes this I do not know.
Some assistance would be greatly appreciated. I just never thought playing games could be so complicated.

Hello, i bought a computer like a year ago, and since then i 've been playing games that doesn't require that much a good graphic, i think my intel hd was being used for this, but recently i started playing more "powerfull" games that require a good video card like my Radeon HD 7600, but for some reason i can't play these games as my pc should run, in a good quality + good FPS... Normally i play all games in low, because for some reason my pc is running the intel video card one, even tho i go to my CCC and make it run in a high perfomance, but to be honest it doesn't improve my game experience that much. I need to make my pc run my Radeon video card without changing games to high perfomance, because it doesn't change nothing. As you will see, i have a good computer, that should almost every games in medium (ATLEAST) with 50+ FPS
