Notebook: HP Pavilion HDX 9200
Operating System originally installed: Windows Vista, 64 bit Ultimate
Hello,
After switching on the power the HP Logo screen appears with good/sufficient brightness for a short while and then the display becomes so dim that it is difficult to see anything clearly.
The screen is actually displaying a message box asking for (BIOS) ‘Power On Password’
The hard disk does not have any OS at this juncture.
An external monitor does not display anything too
Question is: Is this an indication of end of the LCD screen life or something at the BIOS (program) level is dimming the display?
Prior to this problem there is another problem: Even without setting any password a message appears asking for “Power on Password” (at the BIOS level).
A brief description of activity prior to the manifestation of the above problem:-
I was trying reinstall the Operating System with the two system recovery disks from HP. After installing the files from the first disk, when it asked for the second disk, I inserted the second disk and pressed the key to continue installing from the second disk and waited for the next prompt after it finished the task for a long time (more than 2 hours nothing happened) so I switched off the computer and swapped the 2 hard disks and then
- switched it on,
- went to BIOS setup
- Checked both the hard disks (for both quick and complete check), which was passed successfully.
- And then after exiting from BIOS setup, at restart when I was planning to install the OS from the recovery disks I got stuck with the above message asking for “Power on Password” and cannot move forward.
- No OS is installed on the HDD at the moment.
After entering incorrect password 3 times, only a special symbol (character) similar to a 'Spades' (playing card) symbol appeared always (quite a few times) before this problem of ‘dim screen’ seems to have developed.
