Stylus burning through battery while being completely idle.

Hello, I have gotten an HP Actives stylus in November - Product #J4R51AA#ABL

I am given to understand that it should reactivate itself when it comes to contact with a screen and will become idle once again within a minute or two of not being used.

I have used the battery it came with (which was brand new and full as confirmed with a battery tester).

Yesterday, around 5 months after the purchase (during this time I used the pen less than an hour).

I just discovered that the battery was nearly empty, so everytime it became idle, it would not go back to write again, unless I removed and reinsterted the battery. And finally a little later, it stopped writing entirely since the battery died completely.

I am wondering, as to why there is not a "switch off" button for the pen. Does this mean I have to remove the battery form the pen every minute it is not in use?

Note: The exact same type of battery along with the one I used the stylus with is still full and works. So this is not a battery problem.

On the other hand, the stylus had been in a bag and was absolutely not in contact with any type of screen during storage.

Is there a synaptics-based HP pen that doesn't include this ridiculous "feature"?

Thanks again for advice

2 Display Dockingstation

Hallo,

Webcam Not Working

My laptop webcam (HP Wide Vision HD Camera) is not working even when the camera light is turned on. Have tried the following things:

- Updating bios

- Updating the driver in "Device Manager"

- Looking for the driver in "Recovery Manager" but unable to find it

- Restarting the laptop multiple times

The original OS that came with the laptop was Windows 10. The webcam was working prior to a recent Windows Update.

Hello. I have an HP probook 470 G2 laptop with two video cards: Intel and AMD. The problem is that the laptop does not switch hybrid graphics. The performance is at the "maximum", both in the power settings and in the graphics card settings, all drivers are updated. But all games are run on the Intel graphics card.

Help, what could be the problem? Operating system Windows 7 х64, the characteristics of the laptop and video card in the screenshots

Connecting to an External Monitor causes blank screen or windows 10 style blue restart screen

Hi,

I'm using a HP Spectre x360 Convertible running Windows 10.

If I connect my laptop to an external monitor using a HDMI cable the laptop screen flicks to black. The screen is still on but it's completely black. Unplugging the monitor does nothing and the only way to use it again is to hold the power button to manually turn off. However, this only happens sometimes and not all of the time. So in the scenario described above, if I've had to turn it off, I then press the power button to boot up again but this time everything works correctly and the display shows on my external monitor. Unfortunately, this isn't the solution as I can shut the laptop down properly, leave everything connected and when I boot up I get the black screen.

Here's what I've tried to date:

  1. Downloading HP Support tools to look for updated drivers and BIOS settings
  2. Updated all latest windows hotfixes and updates
  3. Used the HMDI port
  4. Used the Display port
  5. Connected to HMDI while the laptop is on
  6. Connected to HMDI while laptop is hibernating and then pressing the power button
  7. Connected to HMDI while laptop is sleeping and pressing then power button
  8. Connected to HMDI while laptop is off and pressing then power button
  9. Connected to HMDI while laptop is sleeping and pressing then power button
  10. Done all of the above with the power cable plugged in and also on battery power

The strange thing is that I can do any of the above and it will work, the screen flicks black ever so briefly, before coming to life on the external monitor or I can try these and it doesn't work and it's only started to happen in the last few months. Same monitor and laptop.

I've done a search and found some issues similar but nothing which describes this issue.

All tests done with laptop lid open. There was another issue (HP or Windows problem, I'm not sure) last year where closing the lid and using only the monitor would have sort of permformance issue where the laptop would need to be restarted for it all to happen again later.

Any practical and useful suggestions out there please?

Many Thanks

Chris

Hello,

I work with an HP ProBook 450 G5 and an HP USB-C mini docking station.
Here I can connect a monitor with VGA and one with HDMI.
Is it possible to run the monitors in parallel?
Without Dochingstation only on the notebook, it works perfectly.
Only the docking station does not seem to get that.

Is there a solution to the problem?

HID driver for touchscreen missing after windows update

$

Greetings--

I have a 15" HP Pavilion laptop with Windows 10. It is equipped with a touchscreen and touchpad. I have owned the unit for 2 years and do regular (automatic) updates through Windows. Virus protection is Windows Defender with all recommended settings.

Recently the touchscreen stopped working. Initially re-booting the system would bring it back on line, however, it would stop working after opening a few windows/tabs.

I have used the trouble-shooter (and yes, I have confirmed that I do in fact own a touchscreen computer).

My troubleshooting actions are as follows:

Ensuring the unit is turned on and charged

I have a touchscreen computer

I have the most recent version of Windows 10

I cannot find the driver for the touchscreen when searching through Device Manager. When clicking on HID (Human Interaction Devices), all I see are (1) HID Compliant Wireless Controls, and (2) HP Wireless Button Driver.

I have followed the steps of HP's troubleshooter without success. I have also done a COLD REBOOT, again without success.

If my driver has disappeared, where can I obtain another one (preferably at no cost)?

If HP is no longer supporting this computer/Windows 10, please let me know.

Notebook was dropped, still works, but "screen door" mesh effect and 1024x768 limit

I'm attempting to troubleshoot an HP notebook owned by a family member who is remote.  Her HP Pavilion notebook was dropped at one point during her travels and unfortunately unprotected inside soft luggage. There is no physical sign of damage, no cracks, chips, or dents to the casing or screen.  When she would start it, after the login prompt accepted her credentials, this screen would appear with no progress after that:

Windows-10_Startup-screen-stuck.jpg

OK, so I was able to achieve some troubleshooting success on this (LONG STORY), but the short end of it was I got her to run a BCDEDIT command to put the notebook into safe mode on boot... and then I was able to get her to access the WiFi so I could use TeamViewer to remotely troubleshoot.  Ran a bunch of repair options... which all seemed to pass.  Ran CHKDSK to fix some disk errors.  HP BIOS level diagnostics of HDD found no problems.  Even got her to boot up in normal mode.  However... problems continue:

  • Resolution is capped at 1024x768.  Cannot select the usual higher resolution this notebook enjoyed, like 1280x1024.  Ran driver updates, went to HP attempting to get the latest driver (it's an older laptop that came with Windows 8, so there's no dedicated Win 10 driver), and even went to AMD to use their Catalyst software.  All of which installed with success, but the display is still limited.
  • There are occasional Visual C++ crashes.  In fact, I could not use the Windows 10 Remote Access feature because it would crash -- had to resort to TeamViewer.  I did run Windows Update and it did perform some updates, but that didn't seem to fix anything.  In fact, after clearing junk files and then running a defrag of her hard drive (just in case), a normal boot ended up back where this all started... forcing me to have her enter the BCDEDIT safeboot command again so I could repeat troubleshooting maintenance.

Here's a close-up of what the screen pixelated detail looks like:

Windows-10_Video-driver-issue.jpg

So... a few more questions:

  • Is it conceivably possible that a notebook can suffer some kind of physical shock whereby a video connector is dislodged or out of alignment to cause this?  That there may be a simple remedy?
  • Can a notebook suffer internal damage that doesn't completely compromise the video display hardware, but induces a resolution limitation?  Or should I presume that because it works THIS far, it must be software?
  • If the problem IS hardware, or a combination of both hardware and software, is there a recommended test to run that can confirm either one?

Lastly, should I run the Media Creation Tool and create an update Windows 10 install to completely refresh all the system files?  I'm reticent to go this path unless absolutely necessary, as it's a long slow process and I won't have access while it's running to see what's going on.

Thanks for your help.

HP Envy Touch Screen/Synaptics Touchpad Driver Issue

Hi,

Serial No: [edited] I'm having long time issue with my HP Envy laptop. The problem is that I'm frequently losing the control of touch pad pointer and touchscreen. When it happen, mouse pointer do not follow touch pad directions, instead it just start moving chaotically, openning different windows and touchscreen start going crazy as well (like someone is touching the screen).

I’ve been searching the internet and I see that there are a number of posts about faulty mouse, or faulty touch pad or faulty touch screen, but all three not working properly does not seen to be a common problem.

The only thing which is helping for couple days is unistaling Synaptics Touchpad Driver, then reinstall again, reboot laptop couple timesSmiley Frustrated Honestly, it is very frustrating, I can't even use this laptop.

FYI: All drivers are up to date, as well as windows and BIOS. It is not a virus. I also, asked my friend who is the system administrator to help me to diagnos my hp envy, we were not able to fix the problem. It looks like something is not compatible with this Synaptic Touchpad driver.

I am extremely frustrated here as well.  I have two Envy TS 17s and have had this problem from early on, despite being very careful.  What are the options available regarding repair/replacement? [post edited]  This has caused so much frustration.

Webcam not being detected

$

I've tried opening the camera application on my computer, but I always get the error:

0xa00f4244<nocamerasareattached>

When I open the device manager, I don't have an imaging devices option, and I also don't have a camera listed under the sounds, video and game controllers menu entry. I've also run the hardware devices troubleshooter in the control panel with no effect.

The laptop has a built in webcam, but the system behaves as though there is no webcam at all, so even updating drivers will not help. Is there any way to bring my webcam into the realm of detection? Thanks!

HP Stream Laptop PC 11-y010nr (Intel Celeron N3060, 4 GB RAM, 32 GB eMMC)

Device ID C69C70B0-3A47-4315-910E-744AA54A83B2

SYSTEM TYPE 64- BIT OPERATING SYSTEM, X64-BASED PROCESSOR

EDITION WINDOWS 10 HOME VERSION 1709.

OS TYPE 16299.308

I recently got this laptop less than a month ago and I have noticed since the first day I got it every so often the screen has been glitching like lines through the screen but only for maybe a second or less than a second. It mainly happens when I am typing on a word document but now it is between videos sometimes on youtube or even randomly now. It is worrying because I barely have had this laptop and it is still under warranty but I want to know why it keeps randomly doing that.

Does this have g-sync 15-ce013na?

Hi,

As of driver version 23.20.16.4877 the screen rotation option is no longer in the launch in context (right click) or in the intel display settings for the display driver

I have an elitebook 840 g3  520 series intel display driver.

Cannot use the latest universal drivers from intel website.  install is blocked.

Will try to downgrade HP's softpaq to previous one.

HP please take note and reintroduce.

I can rotate with the Windows display settings but it's not easy in comparison to the original Intel display settings or launch in context.

My laptop Pavilion  DV7-1175nr display has finally failed after sustaining damage and I need to replace the entire lid. The screen will only stay on for a few seconds. An attached monitor comes up ok. I have seen used display lids on ebay and

I want to know if any DV7 display lid is compatible with mine ( connectors and hinge hardware).

if not ,what display lids are?
