USB-C Connection on New HP Envy

Per the HP store recommendation, I purchased a Targus Dock410 USB-C Universal 1k-4K docking station to go with my new HP Envy laptop.  However, when I try to connect the dock to the laptop with the USB C cable, nothing happens.

I have a USB-C to USB A adapter and when I use that to connect from the USB C port on the Dock to the USB A connection on the laptop, the dock shows up as a standard USB 2 hub.  I can connect mouse & keyboard, external DVD writer, etc, but not the monitors or the hard-wire CAT-5 connection for LAN.

I went to the Targus support site and downloaded all the drivers and utilities suggested and installed them but no joy.

I need some advice on how to get this working.

Thanks!

HDMI Port Not Recognizing Input, Seemingly No Fix or Reason

The Problem: Computer will not recognize a cable being plugged into HDMI port as of two days ago.  Sound control panel still shows audio driver for HDMI port, states that it is not plugged in even though the cable is physically inserted.

Attempted fixes:

  • Unplugging, plugging back in; no changes

  • Using Win+P to change to "Duplicate" and "Extend"; no changes

  • Tried using a different HDMI cable; no changes

  • Tried using an alternative monitor; no changes (Tested both monitor and cable on another device, they function properly)

  • Tried restarting computer; no changes

  • Tried reinstalling display drivers; no changes

  • Tried reinstalling windows; no changes

  • Tried opening case and removing battery using only charge cable to supply power; no changes

  • Tried opening case, unplugging battery, wait 2 minutes, then plug battery back in; HDMI port sends signal again until prolonged sleep/shutdown no longer works after updating BIOS and continues to not work after rolling back

  • Tried restoring BIOS to default settings; no changes

  • Tried updating BIOS to newer version recently found; no changes

  • Tried rolling back BIOS to previous version after updating; no changes

  • Tried rolling back video drivers to 4 previous versions found; no changes, reverted back to latest driver

  • Ran HP Extensive System Check; no problems found

  • Tried following HP's instructions for a hard reset; no changes

The built in display works just fine, and so does everything else. Really, its only the HDMI port that stopped working.

The same day the problem first appeared, I had ran a program called DriverDR in an attempt to check for driver updates after a windows update. At the time the HDMI was working. The program had pulled up drivers for my display adapter and, oddly enough, the monitor I had plugged in to the HDMI port (listed by name with model number, which I had double checked before installing). I had never encountered that before and thought to go ahead and update the driver for that. I used DriverDR in the past and it has never caused me problems, although to be honest I have never been too sure of the program. A few hours later is when the problem first started occurring. A few hours ago today I had checked in my device manager to see if I could find that driver under every tab but it isn't there anymore. All solutions were attempted after this, obviously.

Ok so a little while ago the seam in the frame on my HP Envy 17t started to come loose. I just looked at it today and nearly had a heart attack. This laptop is NOT cheap and I have no idea why it's pulling apart like this. I never put it in a bag and take it anywhere so it hasn't been banged on anything and I have no idea why it's like this.

I m VERY gently with my pc. I've had it for almost three years. I don't understand why there is always a problem. Software issues I can deal with, but this?

How do I fix the frame? Is there a glue or tape for this? Please help!

Keyboard Brightness/Volume commands not working properly

I have tried solutions posted on similar threads here but nothing has worked. The whole top row of keyboard seems to have switched functions? Selecting the mute button (F6 on my keyboard) will toggle the browser search bar. Trying to turn up the brightness (F3) toggles the "Find" application. When I try to change the volume or brightness in any way using the respective keys, nothing happens.

Monitor E243 USB SLEEP Problem

$

Hi there,

I have an arrangement of two HP Elite E243 monitors and am using the USB ports on both displays instead of the docking station's (DELL E-Port plus) as this allows for a neater cable management. However, when I allow the laptop to go to sleep also (as expected) both monitors go to sleep and with that, the problem starts...

I start hearing constantly the unplug followed by the plugin Windows USB sounds and this in a constant loop, like someone was pushing the USB connectors (for my mouse and keyboard) in and out of the USB ports on the right monitor.

I also then struggle to wake the laptop up because the mouse and keyboard are constantly being activated and deactivated.

I have now moved the keyboard and mouse USB connectors to the docking station where this problem does not appear.

So is it that these monitors have a problem when going to sleep? Is this energy saving state causing the USB ports (on the monitor) to malfunction?

What is my solution please?

Cannot Connect to TV

Can you help please. I need to connect to my Toshiba TV.

I have been through the troubleshoot. But cannot get the connection to work.

I have updated all my drivers/software/HP updates etc to the latest versions.

I have connected to the TV using the current HDMI cable but with a laptop with Windows 7. And it works, it connects.

I have put all the same settings I can find to replicate the above, excepting the older version of Windows.

I have switch the laptop on and off.

As an aside I can hear the audio through the TV, it is a picture problem.

Also, the Device manager "didn't detect another display" on both “duplicate these displays” and “expand these displays”.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Spectre x360 refusing to let me update to latest Intel grpahics drivers

I'm trying to run some graphics applications which are asking for OpenGL 2.0. HP Support Assistant says I've got the latest drivers but the Intel site says there are much newer drivers available.

I downloaded the latest Intel drivers but I get a message saying The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Obtain the appropriate driver from the computer's manufacturer. Setup will exit.

Is there a method for forcing an update of the graphics drivers.

The HP drivers are  dated June 2017 but the Intel ones are dated December 2017.

I've run a test showing theat the laptop does have Opengl but only version 1.

Any help appreciated.

HP Stylus not working with HP Spectre 13 x2 PC after Windows 10 upgrade

I have the same problem as this post describes, except I have a HP Spectre 13 x2 PC. Product Number: E9W92UA#ABA

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/HP-Spectre-X2-Consumer-Version-Stylus-Not-Working/td-p/6329675

The HID Compliant Pen is missing from Devce Manager  after Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 8.

The poster of the above link was able to download and install the "Intel Precise Touch" driver and that restored the HID Compliant Pen to the device manager. However, he has the HP Spectre 12.

When I look on the drivers page for my HP Spectre 13 x2 PC, there is no "Intel Precise Touch" driver. This is the HP Spectre 13 drivers download page link:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-spectre-13-h200-x2-pc/5405609/model/6532288?sku=E9W92UA

I tried to install the driver that is on the driver page for the HP Spectre 12, but it failed to install. I downloaded it from this page: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-spectre-12-c000-x2-detachable-pc/15551142

I think I need the "Intel Precise Touch" driver for the  HP Spectre 13 x2 PC.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is there a compatible Pen or Not?

$

HP technical support has told me the following Pen is compatible with my notebook: Y0C43AV SPS: 920241-001 / 910942-001.

I got in touch with the HP sales team to make sure I order the correct HP Pen. The Pen arrives and it will connect or work with my notebook. I talked to another sales memeber and they tell me that the pen I ordered is acutally not compatible with my notebook.

I start back over with technical support and they tell me the same pen I already order and returned is the compatible product. My notebook is fully loaded with Windows Ink so I have to imagine there is a pen or stylus that is compatible. Can anyone help my find a pen or stylus that will work with my notebook?

Dual Monitor Display

I have a USB 3 External Video Card adaptor that allows me to plug in to external monitors (one VGA and one DCI). When I plug the monitors into the adaptor, it detects both monitors as monitor 2 of 2. When I extend the display, I can drag applications from my laptop screen to my monitors. When I do this the exact same thing appears on the monitors. I am looking for a way to be able to work on both monitors and not use the actual laptop display.
