IPS screen or not

$

I have recently purchased HP Notebook 15-ay197cl. According to the website description, it is supposed come with an IPS screen, but I am not sure if it is indeed an IPS. Here are reasons why I am suspicious:

1. It is a completely matte screen. I don't think I have seen a laptop with a completely matte IPS screen.

2. Horizontal viewing angle is good, but vertical viewing angle is not so good. Color (especially black) changes as I tilt the screen forward.

Is there anyway that I confirm it is an IPS or not?

HP Stream - screen flicker

I know this has been asked before, but I've no solution as yet.

We have a new HP Stream 11.  There are ocassional screen flickers.

A bad install of a parental app left us with no wifi.  It hijacked the wifi and we couldn't uninstall the bad app or settings in the registary it messed with.  So, I resorted to a new install of Win10.

It seemed OK until we found the screen briefly but periodically flickers, using Chrome I believe.

I've tried the following:

1 - https://support.hp.com/nz-en/document/c04783131  (HP PCs - Blinking or Flashing screen...)

2 - disabling 'hardware acceleration' in the browser.

3 - all drivers are up to date.

It isn't a big flash, more like when you blink.  Either way, it's really, really annoying and distracting, especially for something brand new.

Any ideas, anyone?

Error message relating to mouse/touchpad

This laptop is and always has been pretty poor, in particular post Win10 upgrade and support is of no help, (also past warranty etc)

When using Edge or Chrome the cursor goes crazy, flying off screen, opening new tabs, shutting others down and whilst this is happening there are 'touch points' like when using the touch screen that appear in the top right quarter of the screen.

Have tried drivers, updates etc but its still a problem.

Latest error code when testing the pad for drop and drag function was as follows and jsut seemed to relate to the right pad which failed completely.

HP Elitebook Malfunction?

My laptop has multiple small problems that I am not sure if they are linked or not.

Sometimes, my mousepad will stop working (it doesn't register my touches). I can still click and move the mouse through the track point. I can resolve this problem by either pressing random keys all over my laptop (this sometimes works) or restarting.

Sometimes, two finger scrolling doesn't work and I have to restart to get it to work again.

Sometimse, my laptop screen will randomly go black and I can hear the machine "turn off," but it's not really turned off since my tabs and everything are still there when I press the power button. It's like it randomly went to sleep. This might be linked to my laptop sleeping if it's too hot?

Touchscreen still does not work (been through all the resources)

I'm hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

First off my device is missing "HID-compliant touch screen" and it was there before. I've updated all drivers for graphics, synaptics, etc. Updated the Bios and done a system restore.

I cannot reinstall original drivers because HP recovery manager says: Disabled: Recovery manager doesn't support this feature after windows upgraded.

And yes, touch pad does work when I'm booted into safe mode.

Hoping someone could point me in the right direction, quick!

Im Trying to connect external displays to a HP elitebook 840 G3 via a Dell Dock WD15. This docking station connects to the laptop via USB-C. I got the external displays working on a Dell Laptop, but cant seem to get it working on the HP 840? so i was wondering if this USB-C port supports display, or only charging.

For Clarification i looked up the Laptop specs and it has a USB Basic Type-C.

Need to replace video cable. How do I geet the screen apart when there are no  screws on the screen, as in most laptops to get to the lcd. Cant find any manuals that deal with this model specifically. All have shown places to remove screws.

USB-C ports increasingly failing, especially for external HDMI display and sometimes charging

My machine is a bare 6 months old and the following symptoms occur, all related to the USB-C ports.  All of these symptoms are intermittent and unpredictable, but annoying and disappointing in an expensive new laptop.

> Failure to charge when the charger is plugged in (occasional).

> Brief failure of audio when USB-C is connected to an external monitor via HDMI cable (frequent)

> Brief failure of audio and video, followed by resumption of both, when USB-C is connected to an external monitor via HDMI cable

> Ongoing failure of audio and video when USB-C is connected to an external monitor via HDMI cable

> Failure of audio and video, followed by resumption of video but not of audio, when USB-C is connected to an external monitor via HDMI cable

> The need for repeated unplugging and replugging of the USB-C connection to achieve a successful connection.

> Complete inability to receive audio on the external monitor on one of the two USB-C ports, accompanied with blackouts of the laptop display while unplugging and replugging the USB connection to attempt to achieve a viable connection (which used to work but now it seems not to at all on that particular port).

I have eliminated the external monitor, the HDMI cable and individual HDMI ports on the monitor as being the source of these failures by switching out various alternatives.  This failure only occurs when used with my HP laptop and not with any other audio-video source.  The intermittent failure to charge also points to the fault being within the laptop or its software.

I have persevered for some months with this issue in order to isolate and define the problem.  At the same time, these issues now occur much more frequently than at first, and take much more frequent unplugging and replugging of the USB-C ports to restore the performance, and in the case of the one of the two ports, nothing I can do will niow achieve an audio feed at all.

I hope that HP service advisers are able to point me to a fully adequate solution to these issues.

Touch screen intermittent

I have been having the same issue, with my touchscreen laptop that I purchased only 1 year ago. It worked great up until about 4 months ago, and now the touchscreen is completely intermittent. I have always been a lover of HP and we have 3 in our home. If this is the quality of their products, I will find a new love.

My laptop was a special purchase from Costco, and was built to spec. I am really sad to have spent nearly $1000 on a laptop that works, PERIODICALLY. If anyone else knows what to do about this, I would love to know as well.

HP laptop touchscreen works only intermittently

I purchased my computer as a made to spec, from Costco in early 2017. In the past four months, the touchscreen has been giving out intermittently.  I have started it again this morning, only to have it work for only about 20 minutes. I have always been a lover of HP, and we have 3 HP's in our home. But - I am willing to find a new love if this is the quality that I paid for.

I paid nearly $1000 (on a sale) for this computer, only to have it fail within a year. That is not good quality HP. Seriously, I am not a happy customer.

I want to have a working computer for my writing and art. Please, someone out there, tell me if there is an alternative to purchasing a different brand.

HP Active Pen connected, but not writing

I bought the HP Active Pen separately from my 2 in 1 laptop and it connected successfully via Bluetooth. The buttons work and bring up programs such as Windows Ink and OneNote but when it comes to writing or tapping with the pen, nothing happens. I've already tried calibrating the touch screen and sensitivity but still no luck. This is the exact product I bought: HP Active Stylus Digital Pen - T4Z24UT#ABA

Black screen while rotating

Hello, I bought a Hp Spectre x360 last october and I've been super happy about it. Unfurtunately there has been a problem since last week. When I flip the screen to use it as a tablet after a certain angle (between the keyboard and the screen), around 200° (so a little more than perfectly flat) the display just goes completely black. When I go back under that 200° angle and I get back to normal laptop position the screen comes back and works perfectly fine. I don't know how to solve this problem.

Thank you, Paolo.

Graphics driver issue

Hi so i got a hp pavilion off my room mate that was totally screwed and could not even be factory reset. I installed a fresh copy of widnows 8.1 64 bit on it and its working fine now but i cant seem to get the graphics drivers to work. The model is a pavilion g6, product number: D5M17EA#ABV

The computer has HD4000 onboard graphics as well as a  radeon 7690m xt. For some reason i cant figure out how to install the drivers for the radeon card properly. The Intel HD4000 drivers just seem to take over. I am thinking maybe i should just go to windows 7 instead and this will be easier? I have read online quite a bit about similar issues with the 7690m graphics cards.

I have installed and uninstalled stuff so many times i am literally happy to do a completely fresh install of windows 8.1 or 7 and follow any step by step advice someone could give me.

Thank you.

Hi!

I have a HP Pavilion x360 convertible pc that is just driving me crazy. Whenever i'm seeing a video on Youtube, a class i recorded in college or a movie on Netflix the audio just start slowing down and twitching ( i don't know how to explain the horrible sound), the video itself slows too. To fix it i just have to reiniciate. And one time, rigth after i reiniciate it, the same thing happened. I remember that this used to happen a time ago, and te screen used to turn blue but now even if i don't reiniciate it, it will just continue. How do i fix it? Please help me because, this pc is my life in college. Thank you!

Can not recognize 2 screens

Yesterday quickly I plugged of the second screen Z24n and rush with my laotop to a meeting since I am back and reconnect it to the screen.

One or another does not work;

Whan I connect the second screen to my laptop it goes only to the second screen and the screen of the laptop is black. I have to unplug the second monitor than the laptop screen is back. I tried to readjust but it does not recognize two screens together!

Only one or another.

I have the suspicion that it has to do with a driver or soemthing in windows hence physically both monitors are working.

Thank you for your support in advance.
