ive had game crashes for space engineers and its confirmed, by the developers, to be a problem for AMD beta drivers or very old drivers. this prompted me to reinstall amd. prior to this account i had attempted AMD graphics reinstalls and had met with hardware not getting picked up by the catalyst installation. i cant remember what i did differently but i didnt get that error in this account. i just gave up on my drivers and left it on the old as toss hp drivers from 2012 prior to this account.
so i followed a guide on how to completely uninstall amd, followed it to the letter (registry edits included) and then installed the latest catalyst but my game was still crashing. there was no hp driver underneath the new catalyst.
my next attempt was to completely uninstall AMD but to install the official hp amd driver from 2012 underneath the catalyst 14. everything was going good until it completed the installation and i immediately got a flat black screen. i restarted and as soon as the pc got done loading out of BIOS nothing but black screen dispair. googling random tech websites for answers concluded i had installed the wrong catalyst. i uninstalled in safe mode and got my screen back, then immediately installed the right catalyst.
thats where i am right now. ever since i restarted after the installation, my brightness function keys will animate moving down and up but wont change the physical brightness ( its constantly on the lowest level.) right now im stumped and not finding much info on google. some say its the backlight hardware deciding to poop out, some say its my graphics driver doing GOD KNOWS WHAT. i tried free third party software to control my brightness but so far have not found any that are compatible with the generic pnp monitor.
after coming back from safemode and a failure to change brightness with function keys there, now i boot up into normal windows with an error message from windows aero! it went something along the lines of "windows aero has been diaabled because some software is incompatible". im pretty sure im on radeon driver 14.100.0.0; i checked my device manager just now. what is causing these two problems?
