DVI output from Docking station?

Hello,

I have following devices:

  • HP Notebook 6715b with ATI Radeon X1250 display adapter. Notebook itself has VGA port for external monitor. Operating system is Windows 7 64-bit.
  • HP Docking Station with 120W power, part number EN488AA. It has VGA and DVI ports.
  • External monitor Acer G245H. It has VGA, DVI and HDMI ports available to connect.

Using Docking Station, I'm already able to use external monitor using VGA port. But since the image quality is quite poor, I'd like to use DVI output (and possibly DVI to HDMI adapter) to see the notebook desktop in my external monitor. At this point, I'm not able to do that - if only DVI cable is connected between Docking Station and external monitor, the monitor indicates "no signal".

Here's what it looks like in Windows' Display/Screen Resolution page, when DVI cable is connected (I'm looking this from notebook display):

Changing setting to "Show desktop only to 2" causes notebook display to go black but nothing appears in external monitor - it remains in standby mode and doesn't wake up. Windows desktop returns back to notebook display after 15 seconds since I cannot confirm the change in any screen. So DVI is not "simulated" as VGA in Windows.

When I connect the VGA cable between Docking station and external monitor, selecting "Show desktop only to 2" changes the desktop to external monitor and after confirming the change the settings are now like this.

I have tried to install different versions of AMD display drivers. No changes to Display/Screen Resolution page, and AMD Catalyst Control Center (when not crashing) shows options and information only for my CPU, not for display adapter.

Docking station combatibility information says: "DVI is not supported on the HP Compaq 6100, 6300 and 6500 series." But my notebook series (67xx) is not listed, so can I assume that DVI should be supported by my notebook via Docking Station? What can I do or try to get DVI output?
