Yet Another Pavilion g7 Owner With HDMI Issues

I have seen countless posts on these support forums asking for someone from HP to please provide some assistance to the tons of people having issues with their Pavilion g7 HDMI connection.  I have yet to find a reply that has been helpful or provided any information other than "turn PC and monitor off... now turn them back on!".

Can someone please provide any information, even if it's a simple "HP recognizes this problem but does not have a solution at this time"?  At this point anything would help.....  PLEASE.

Good morning.

I got some Troubles with my drivers.

I got the newest drivers i could find. Downloaded the drivers with DriverGenius.

Allways if i wone start a game , the Display gets black (should be the switch of intern graficcard to Radeon 6770 i think), all drivers restart (also the audio diver) but the screen stays black all the time.

I formated my computer but had the same problem again.

Is this may an Windows problem? I installed some Windows drivers, since this time it didn't work any more :(

I got Windows 7 64bits

So what can i do??

Pls help me :(

Nice Regards Chris

HP Pavilion g6 Webcam problems

I have an HP Pavilion g6-1257ea Notebook Pc and I've had it for about a year and a half. The webcam had always worked fine untill a couple of months ago. But now it keeps freezing or refusing to work at all and I am struggling to find a solution to this problem. I have tried downloading a newer version of Cyberlink but there was no change, in fact the problem actually became more regular. Specifically, when the webcam does work, it will automatically freeze if I try to move the screen in anyway. Is there any way to fix this?

black screen pavilion dv6 2064ca notebook SOLVED

Black (blank) screen, no boot, HP Pavilion DV6 2064ca Entertainment pc – how I fixed it.

Background info Windows 7 home premium – My laptop is in perfect, like brand new condition, so I was very upset when one day I pressed the start button and the screen stayed black – the power button, top row leds, touch pad led, and power jack led were all working and on, however the speaker and wifi buttons were red and all were unresponsive. Also, the fan was running, and the DVD drive would light up and seemed to make a sound, all usb had power. The cap and num lock leds flashed once, then nothing. The power on led at front left was on but the h drive led at front left stayed off.  There was an initial sound of something starting (spinning?) and click at start up, but that is all.

You can scroll down to Solution if you want to skip what I tried in my search for a repair.

I did take the laptop to the store where I bought it and I asked for the most experienced tech who then checked it and said “it is not worth spending the money to fix it; you can buy a new one for the same price. It was just past the extended warranty period.

I brought it to two professionals who said it was not worth repairing, one said it was capacitors on the main board; the other said it was the main board damaged.

After researching online and reading many pages of possible repairs and watching videos of repairs I did the following. I tried to do only one thing at a time.

Press start button and pres esc key repeatedly = nothing

Control –alt-delete = nothing

Hard reset – remove power and battery – press and hold start button 30 seconds

to one minute, replace and restart = nothing

Remove and refit ram memory *here I got a false alarm as it started normally and I thought I had found the problem but later after shutdown it came up with the black screen again.....ouch.

Remove and refit hard drive = nothing

Replace cmos battery = nothing

Tried connecting a monitor and TV (hdmi) = nothing

Note I had done all windows updates and also occasionally checked for bios and driver updates.

Next I tried turning on and leaving it in the black screen state to see if it would start up later= it did not but it did get warm to hot when left in that state.

I found that when I turned it off and then on while warm or hot it did boot and start up so I used it that way for some time – tried updates, settings, h drive and memory test, etc etc,

Many reported overheating issues suggesting problems with heat exchanger/CPU and I remembered that it had run very hot while left running programs overnight.

So, I stripped the laptop completely and removed the mother board and removed and re-seated the heat exchanger with new heat transfer paste (after cleaning) = another false alarm as it booted normally for about 20 times so I thought it was fixed but later I got the black screen again. Back to the drawing board.

Meanwhile while searching countless message boards including HP sites, I found many many frustrated hp customers giving up and even placing their mother boards in ovens and trying to heat the gpu and using all kinds of strange attempts to repair their laptops. To be fair, many other manufacturers’ customers were in the same boat at times. I often read “I’ll never buy an hp again” but remember all or most manufacturers have problems sometimes. I too was planning to stay away from hp but in the end it was information from their site that helped me.

On one hp site after inputting my model # etc I came across known issues re black screen and what to try, on the list that I had not tried was rolling back the bios, also updating the video driver for the gpu graphics processing unit. I did this too and tried all the bios versions and rolled back the video drivers all in various combinations = this did not work

The last thing on the list was to re-install windows, but before doing that I thought of the importance of bios and drivers so I installed the very latest bios version again and decided to go to the AMD website where

* I FOUND DRIVERS FOR MY MODEL VIDEO ADAPTER THAT WAS NEWER THAN THOSE ON HP SUPPORT SITE.

Solution = after updating the bios to latest from HP site AND updating video adapter drivers from the manufacturers site – in my case AMD – ATI RADEON HD 4650, my laptop is like new again.  I have turned it on and off in different combinations of battery power or ac adapter power or both more than 150 times with no more black screen.

I am still skeptical myself because it seemed to be thermal (heat) related. I cannot explain it but it works and it was on the list on the HP site – that is what got me going in that direction. THANK YOU HP. I cannot explain why it started when hot and how that would relate with the video adapter but I’ve been around computers since windows 3.1 (yes I’m old ha ha) and I know that with computers, all types of strange things can happen.

I learned a lot about my computer thanks to all those who post on message boards and HP Support site but just because someone else has a similar problem, it may not have the same cause or repair as yours. Thank you to all who post info and to HP for their support site. A note to others, don’t follow just any advice, be cautious and don’t assume, do all the easy and safe steps first.

NOTE after re-seating the heat exchanger on the CPU my laptop runs cool to warm so it was indeed a good part of the repair although not the cause of the dreaded black screen.

Good luck with yours, keep trying, the solution may be easier than you think.

I will post any issues or re-occurrences if necessary. (I hope not)

CQ62 - Screen flickering on and off

$

Hi all,

I have been researching all night what could be the solution for my problem. I know there are similar posts but I am yet to find one that would conclusively solve my issue.

My CQ62 at times flickers on and off (but mainly off).

- Opening and closing the lid doesn't change this at all. It seems to flicker on and off intermittently without touching anything on the laptop or the laptop getting bumped etc.

- Connecting the laptop to the TV as an external monitor works fine so I have ruled out any motherboard issues.

- At times but not much anymore, the screen would function perfectly for a period of time at full brightness so I don't think its a backlight issue nor do I think the screen is broken.

- I have dissassembled the laptop and unplugged and plugged in the video cord that connects the mb with the screen and have seen no change.

- The flickering starts when I power up all the way through the startup sequence and into the home screen.

- I have tried shining a torch at the screen but I cant see anything to show that it is just really dim. When it shows black, it is really bright, almost like it is just showing something completely black at full brightness.

- When the flickering starts, it appears like a lose connection as it doesn't go from completely on to completely off but patchy and then completely out.

As I don't have another laptop to test the screen with I can't rule that out nor do I have a spare screen to test in my current laptop so I cant rule out anything like the video cable or inverter.

I am tempted to just buy a new screen off ebay (~$50) or a new video cable (~$15) but I am worried that if I get both and neither work I will be out of pocket without any results to show for it.

Any ideas on other tests or what you would lean to as a guess what it might be?

I can upload a video of what it looks like as well if that helps.

Thanks in advance,

Shaun.

Hi,

So yesterday I had my laptop repaired, needed cleaning and a service and it all worked. I put it in my car in a bag and now the display doesn't work, the backlight is on.

I've also attached it to the tv and external monitor and the laptop is working fine. There is no image at boot either so it's not a setting issue.

I'm wondering if it's something serious or when it's been repaired there maybe a lose connection or cable not put in correctly.

Any thoughts?
