touchscreen not working- Device Manager only lists Generic PnP monitor

0
0

I've had this computer for 2.5 years.  Until a couple of months ago, the touchscreen worked fine. Now it has decided to stop and I don't know how to fix it. The touchscreen was initially working after an upgrade to Windows 10 a few months ago.

Facts-

  • In Device Manager, under Monitors, it only lists Generic PnP monitor
  • In About Your PC, under Pen and Touch, it says No Pen or Touch input is available for the display
  • In Human Interface Devices, the only things listed are HID Compliant wireless radio controls and HP wireless button driver. There is no mention of the HID info for the touchscreen/monitor
  • I have tried hard reboot with battery removal

It appears to me it is not recognizing the monitor. Perhaps it needs a driver?  I have been trouble shooting to the best of my knowledge and research and am stumped.

I have looked for what the monitor is called for this computer so I could search for more specific info, and haven't found the info.

If someone out there can assist me so I can again touch my screen and have it know I'm there, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you.

External Display Automatically Going Into Extended Desktop Mode When Connected Through VGA Port

After Connecting an External Monitor to the Laptop through VGA port the monitor automatically goes into extended dispaly mode. It has to be manually set to duplicate display from Display settings. The settings only remains intact till the laptop is restarted. Once it is restarted and external display is connected the external display goes into extended desktop. Also the Display selector option which generally pops up after pressing the Fn+F4 keys does not come up. Kindly Suggest on how these issues can be resolved.

Screen mostly stays black with intermittent flash of image

When turning on the computer, it mostly has just a blank grey/black screen. The screen image does flash intermittently (although not in any consistent way) and show itself, but does not stay visible to allow using the laptop without a secondary screen connected. With a secondary screen, the computer operates fine, so if you can see what it is doing on another device, the data can be used. It defeats the purpose of laptop though and makes it inconvenient to have to pull the screen from another computer.

mouse pulls window instead of sliding across. suspect my two antivirus programs are competing

Mouse grabs a window and moves it instead of sliding over it. Computer seems to running even slower. Have been running windows 10 and 7 for a few months. Also useing Maleware antibytes and webroot anti virus. The problem started recently but running SPeedzooka and Webroot usually solved the problem. I read that one should not run two antivirus programs at the same time. Webroot seems to be an anti-virus and anti-malware, so I was thinking of uninstalling the malware program, but that might not be the problem.

I even now have trouble with the lock screen and the sign in screen. I am not sure if this is a software or hardware issue because somtimes I have more success using the touchpad instead of the mouse. That could just be a sympto and not the cause.

I am typing this on a different laptop.

Thanks

Tom

I recently had to take apart my laptop to look to see if the battery was part of a recall.  This was a very difficult process and not one that I was comfortable with, but I wasn't going to pay HP to look at my battery.  Before this, my battery was completely dead so I had to purchase a new battery for $120.   While I had it open, I replaced the battery.  I tried to get everything back together the way it was before I took it apart, but there are about 4 "ribbons" that connect the back of the keyboard to the bottom inside part of the laptop.  Anyway, now my mouse pad or track pad (whatever you call it) on the laptop is not working.  And the lights on the keyboard are not working.  I cannot find a good picture of the inside of the laptop to compare how mine is put together with the proper way.

Had I known I would have to take apart the laptop to replace the battery, I never would have purchased this laptop.  For some reason, the battery died completely less than two years after purchase.  Not happy with the laptop, but can anyone help me????

No signal to the TV

So when I first bought the computer I was confused as to why there is no freaking HDMI port, why should I have to spend a couple hundred dollars on this PC and THEN have to spend even more just to but a adapter. So I bought it and the PC has served me well for a few years. For the past year I haven't used the PC much but about once a week I hop on to check stuff or search something. About a week ago I was moving my room around and moved my LC with the adapter still inside, no harm done, I haven't noticed and visible damage. I did carry it down the hallway in my arms and I believe I put a little pressure on the adapter but it shouldn't have done much. So I re set my PC up and plug everything in, turn it on along with my TV ... ... No signal, check HDMI cable ... ... No signal, I used a new cable, old cable, new adapter, and a old adapter. (Actually just bought it tonight) no matter what I do the TV still says no signal when I switch HDMI ports, cables or adapters, anyone know anything I can do? I would rather not open it up because I only know the outside of computers, not the insides. Basically no signal to the TV.

HP HD Webcam [Fixed]

Hi all

My PC configuration is:

Windows Edition: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (Originally Windows 7)

Model: HP Pavilion g4-1318dx Notebook PC

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU B960 @2.20GHz

Installed RAM: 4GB

System Type: 64-bit Operating System

Since I updated to Windows 10, everything was working like peaches, but a couple weeks ago, I tried to use Skype, and the Webcam ceased to work, I believed it was a small problem, and ignored it. Afterwards, the camera failed again on a Google Hangout session when that happened, I started to worry. My search for fixing this problem started. I read a lot, and did not find a solution yet.

HP_HD_Webcamb_[Fixed]_Skype_Failure.jpg

The things I've done so far now are: Update the CyberLink YouCam software (through HP), the camera was not working even when it was ran with the original software that came with my PC (never opened the software until I had this problem), and just today, the camera seemed stable enough to not crush the updated CyberLink YouCam program.

I updated the driver HP Webcam driver through the Device Manager, just to tell me that I had the latest driver available (which changed nothing to be honest). I then explored other options, like updating the CyberLink YouCam directly through the website, but the installation was locked by Windows 10, it seems due to a lack of a valid signature, even though there are ways to bypass this, I decided not to do it yet.

Then, I found a possible solution, which was to uninstall the HP HD Webcam [Fixed], run a hardware check, and then wait for the system to install the driver that comes pre-installed. This actually made the driver appear again, which I updated through the Device Manager (I believe this gave some stability to the webcam).

At this point I'm very disappointed since, it seems that there isn't an HP solution out there for the camera, I found this link:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04758308

But is generic -and not useful-, since I'm totally unable to find a recent driver for the HP HD Webcam [Fixed]. The updated driver is dated 10-07-2015, as it can be checked on the Device Manager driver, and so far, I believe is not compatible.

What solutions might be out there that are not generic, like, for example, restoring your system back to Windows 7. To be honest, so far I'm pretty happy with Windows 10, and is the first time consuming problem I had with it.

Any help, especially from HP -regarding Windwos 10- would be much appreciated.

scale to full screen in windows 10

This problem is on my notebook windows 10 64 bit. After windows 8.1 some games now will not display in full screen. The prior fix will not work in 10, as even changing windows resolution the setting scale to full screen in the amd nvdia or intel settings have no effect

Laptop doesnt go into tablet mode when i bend the screen over

Ever since the new windows 10 anniversary update, my laptop no longer enters or asks to enter tablet mode when i bend the screen back. This is quite frustrating as normally it would change and the keyboard would b deactivated, but now when i flip it back the keyboard remains active and i end up pressing random keys. I have tried different settings for whether or not to be asked to enter tablet mode in windows settings but it doesnt change anything.

touchpad

I have a problem with my touchpad. It has four buttons, two above the touchpad (closest to screen) and two below.  Normally I only use left lower button to highlight text etc.  For some reason this no longer works and I have to now use the left upper button to do the same thing.  I don't know how this changed itself. It seemed to happen when new windows updates installed but I am not sure of this. There is no option to re-configure the buttons in the mouse section of the control panel. I have tried installing updated touchpad drivers but that has no effect. I would be very grateful for any help as I can find no solution online.
