I recently purchased an HP Spectre Notebook. I am a graphic designer and decided to try something other than a Macbook (which I've used for the past 9 years). So far I love the Spectre, but my only beef is the touchpad compared to the Macbook. I can't seem to find any additional settings to change the following (and maybe it's not possible, please let me know if it's not and maybe some suggestions for an external trackpad that works this sort of magic!):

 

1. Reverse scrolling. (honestly... who the heck scrolls that way?) Since this apparently doesn't have a precision pad, it's not an option to change in settings... at least that I can find.

2. Move around (mainly in Illustrator) freely with just dragging 2 fingers around the pad (anyone that's designed in Illustrator on a Macbook will understand)

 

That's really it. Maybe it's a "precision touchpad" I should be looking for. I just assumed something at this price and awesomeness would have come with an equally awesome touchpad.

Daughter-in-law is starting out as a fledgling new photographer. My issue: her display does not remotely display the correct colors of her photos. I have told her laptop displasy are never 100% accurate but in this case the colors are really off. Even within a photo-editing software they look off. Is there a way to calibrate the display color to get as close to the original photo as possible?? I appreciate any guidance and assistance. Thanks.

I 've added an external keyboard and an external monitor to my HP Envy m7-n011dx laptop.  Both are recognized by the laptop if I leave the lid open.  When I close the lid the computer goes into sleep mode, and I cannot use the laptop with the attached keyboard and monitor.

 

How do I instruct the laptop not to go into sleep mode when I close the lid so I can use the attached keyboard and monitor?

Good evening,

I left the notebook downloading an HP update and then turned it off after it was complete. The following morning I turned the notebook on and there was no display but I could hear it booting up. I attached an external monitor and it works fine. There is no notebook screen identified in the screen settings (where I used to get 2 before) only the external monitor is available.

Got a HP Probook 450 G0 here, which is powering up with no screen display.

 

No BIOS, no nothing. It isn't the backlight.

 

You can hear fans spinning up, the Caps Lock key starts flashing, but nothing else happens.

 

I've removed RTC/BIOS battery, nothing. Removed and swapped RAM, nothing. Plugged into TV with HDMI, nothing.

 

 

I'm starting to suspect it's something more complex - a motherboard problem, a BIOS problem, or a CPU problem.

 

I seem to remember older HPs having Caps Lock blink codes for reporting issues, but I can't see any info about that for the ProBooks. Any ideas?

Is it possible to plug a video source into the HDMI port of the HP spectre so that I can capture video on the laptop?

The source could be from another PC, a satelite decoder or any other video source that outputs HDMI non-copyprotected content.

Hello;

 

My screen freezes randomly, and then vertical bars from top to bottom of the screen appear over the frozen image. These bars are in line with icons on the bottom bar. Sometimes moving the screen fixes this, closing the laptop etc, sometimes not.

 

When not frozen I am now detecting a flicker on the screen.

 

If I connect a screen to the hdmi port, the hdmi screen works ok.

 

 

This is making the laptop unusable without a second screen.

 

Can anyone help? , not sure if this is a SW or a HW issue.

This is for a  HP x360 - 15 - w117CL running Windows 10 (64 bit)

 

Got this computer last week and auto rotation was working fine out of the box. Display adapted to tablet mode, landscape, portrait- no issues. Once connected to the internet it started getting updates. Now the autorotate function will not work and the display is stuck at landscape. The "Lock display rotation" button under System-Display is grayed out so I cannot change. Went to the control panel under advanced display settings and checked the box to allow display rotation. That did not have an effect. In tablet mode, the display lock putton is grayed out as well. Looking into the forum I've found it is a common issue but have not found a solution. Thinking it could be a hardware issue I installed the Microsoft Sensor Tool app, and as long as the app is running the machine will autorotate just fine. If I quit the tool the issue comes back and display will not rotate. Seems like the app is enabling the autorotation and perhaps one of the updates froze the sensors at a certain value in the registry.

 

Any suggestions to solve this issue will be greately appreciated.

Just purchased several 450 G2's. None will connect to our TV via HDMI. All of the Dell's we have work with no problem on the same TV. Intel 10.18.10.3995 driver is installed.  Tried clone and extended via windows. Cannot detect the TV. Any help will be appreciated!

Wow,

 

This laptop was sent in for a bad hard drive and this time it was sent in due to the screen becoming detached.  While there is no cracks or dents, etc. they will not repair and want an outrageous price to fix.

 

DO NOT GET EXTENDE WARRANTTEE THAT WLL NOT BE HONORED UNLESS THEY CHOOSE TO!

Will not display on any monitor. Tried multiple different monitors. Updated all the drivers, from Intel, NVIDIA, and HP. Nothing works.

 

Funny thing is that NVIDIA recognizes the monitor, name, make, and resolution. But no where can I find NIVIDIA recognizing the built in display on this computer. Intel recognizes the built in monitor, but doesnt see the external monitor.

In the NIVIDIA contorl panel under system topology it details the HDMI port, its connected.

 

So I got my IT people involved. They couldnt figure it out either. They tried everything. They believe that since NVIDIA sees the external monitor, but "Multiple Display Cloning" is "Disabled" (Unable to enable it) that NVIDIA doesnt recognize the built in display, it thinks the built in display is the monitor. When the external monitor HDMI is unplugged, the NVIDIA control panel clears out as if no monitor exists at all.

 

This is a brand new HP zBook that I have had for a couple months. Been fighting this issue ever since.

 

Desperate to get my monitor working I recently went and purchased a VGA to DVI converter and DVI to HDMI converter. That doesnt work either. I feel defeated, crushed by an HDMI port.

I have quite a few problems with my laptop that have been happening since day 1. My laptop screen constantly turns black at night -- this happens while the power supply is plugged in and when it is now. The notebook will be on but the screen will turn black randomly and then come back on at random times. It is very frustrating when working on a project. Also, the screen will just start blinking hysterically. THis happens whether the touchscreen is on or off and whether the bluetooth is on or off. At times, it will just freeze when I am trying to log back in. It will keep spinning and never log back in. I really need help with this issue as I've tried everything. I am in the IT industry so I have a great deal of knowledge with technology. I just can't deal with the screen randomly turning black and hysterically blinking.

 

Anyone else having this issue or know how to fix the issue? Thank you.

I have two issues with the display on my Spectre.

 

1. The autorotate feature is not terribly reliable. Many times when I first turn the machine on, the screen will be upside down (occurs in both tent mode and laptop mode). To fix it, I have to put it in tablet mode and turn it a few times until autorotate triggers and fixes the orientation. The autorotate will not correct itself simply by flipping it in laptop mode.

 

2. The cursor randomly jumps to the bottom center of the screen. It does this using a mouse, digitizer pen and track pad. I have tried updating the driver for the digitizer, but that did not correct the isssue.

This morning, upon booting up my computer, I discovered what appeared to be a darker, shaded region in the center of my monitor. It seems to only really appear in non-white colour schemes, as well as on the start/shutdown screen.

 

Here, you can clearly see it

 

 

While here, it is hidden

 

I have also confirmed that the shaded region appears in the BIOS settings page and appears when rebooting the computer in safe mode. I have not installed anything recently.

 

So this has been bugging me as when watching videos or doing almost anything that has colour in it, this darker region appears. Any help on resolving this issue is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
