I have the Pavilion X2, a brand new purchase.
It's important to me to be able to use this machine as a desk/laptop .. the fully detacheable tablet part is just a bonus for presenting material to my clients digitally (nice feature). However, I have A BIG PROBLEM.
When displaying my businesses set of website's, for example this one:
beasleydesignsandprint.com
This laptop pulls them up the way they pull up when using a tablet. The sites are NOT responsive design, so on tablets/smartphones they don't auto-adjust, or show full width images, or their navigational features like parallax scrolling. However, since all the main copy is dead center, the sites still look great on these tools.
However, on this notebook, since it's actually a laptop (that happens to have a tablet feature), I had no doubt that the sites would pull up properly - displaying the full width imagery and navigational features - just like desktops do.
But it's behaving solely as a tablet - showing the site without the full width or nav features.
I can live without the nav features coming up - but since the laptop's a LAPTOP and not primarily a tablet, the screen is wider like a desktop - so the screen is displaying more space on both sides, but not the images which are stretched to that space...so the space is either blank or shows the overall background of the website...instead of the imagery that is expanded to the edge of the screen. If this makes sense.
...The laptop is wider than smartphones or tablets, more like desktops - so they show the fact that there is more space on both sides of the screen - but they aren't showing the images which are stretched to that space...they only show the mid section of the site, like tablets.
It's pretty obvious that the reason for this is because this notebook is also a tablet - so its showing a non responsive website like a tablet would, without full width or nav features - but I need it to display it the way a desktop would! That's why I bought a laptop instead of a tablet!
In the store, they didn't have the internet set up, so I couldn't simply go to the sites to make sure this wouldn't happen! But I asked plenty of questions about the transition from it being a laptop/desktop VS tablet, and was told several times that I can adjust between the two behaviors in the 'settings' area and that if I set the laptop to behave as a desktop instead of a tablet, it would - which means, I should be able to 'lock' it to a laptop style display (or something of that nature), and the website's should show properly, even without being responsive.
But the adjustment settings between desktop & tablet are very limited...there isn't anything I can find referring to the issue. I played with the resolution at first, knowing that that wasn't the problem, but I gave it a shot.
Then I focused on laptop VS tablet, since I'm sure that is the problem. And I found an adjustment in the 'settings' that says something like, 'ask me if I want to convert to tablet or stay at desktop', something like that...I've tried it and a few other similar options, and none of them make this thing behave solely like a desktop computer, the way it's advertised. Desktop computers show my sites perfectly - with full width imagery & all the navigational features. Only tablets/smartphones show my sites truncated - and again, I understand why - because it isn't responsive - but this thing should operate like a desktop when I want it to!
HELP! I fear that there's nothing I'll be able to do - because the screen can just pop on & off, making it a tablet anytime, it can only show non-responsive sites like tablets do...it can't behave solely like a desktop.
True/False??? HELP.
