how do you configure nvidia graphics card

$

I have an Envy laptop computer and upgraded the video card to Nvidia GeForce GT 740m. I was trying to figure out how the video card is set up but when I click on the Nvidia control panel, the only settings that show up are for 3d. There's nothing that lets you change any display settings.
If I right click on the desktop, the only graphics settings are for the onboard video card which I assume I shouldn't be using since the Nvidia is supposed to be a better video card, right?

When I go to device manager, both video cards show up. Are they both supposed to show?

My Compaq C60DX-615DX is having really strange startup problems

I have had my Compaq CQ60-615DX Laptop since July of 2010 and have never had any serious problems with it till now. Three week ago I was deleting some unused stuff on my computer. Two items gave me a hard time one of them was Nero 9 and another was IAHGAMES eventually they deleted and everything seemed fine. Then the next day I went to turn on my computer and I got a half gray and half black screen (see picture). The first time I turned off the computer then turned it back on and everything worked normal. That worked for a few days and then it becomae so that I would have to turn my computer off and on many times before it would come on. Then about a week later the only way I could get past that screen in order to start up was to take the battery out and then put it back in then trun it on again.

Once the computer comes on it functions normally and I don't have any problems. I tried moving around the screen and holding the laptop in different positions to see if maybe there was something wrong with a connection to the screen, but that didn't do anything. I tried restoring the system to a time before I was having the problems and that didn't help either. I left the laptop on for 9 days without ever turning it off and it worked perfectly with no problems, but as soon I acidentally restarted the computer to update something I started having the same problem again.

Finally three days ago I did a Sytem recovery from image discs back to the way the computer was when it was brand new. At first it seemed like it solved the problem. When I would restart the computer it would boot up normally and I wouldn't get that screen. Then when I went to turn off the computer that night Windows updated 128 items (all the updates since I got the laptop) and I started having the problem again yesterday morning. Only now  it starts as the gray and black screen then gets lighter and gradually changes to red then gradually changes to orange and gets lighter and lighter until it's almost white. It's not a solid color the screen looks like the picture, but in different colors. Then it starts up normally. I can't really explain it very well. I have a video of this happening, but I don't know how to post it here.

Two other things that could be important I did drop the laptop from about three feet onto carpet two months ago also these problems started happening after a recent Windows update. I don't know if either of those things have something to do with it. I would really appreciate any help I can get. I can't afford a new laptop right now and I'm really hoping I can fix this for a reasonable price. Thanks.2013-12-10 12.45.27.jpg

Hi there,

Can someone please help me with the procedure to increase the VRAM?

All the procedures I could get online require going through the "BIOS setup", then "Advanced setup", which is absent in my Compaq Presario CQ43-304AU and almost all the hp laptops. Any way out?

dv6-7000, NVIDIA 650M, Intell 4000 Graphics -- overscan problem via HDMI to HP monitor

$

When the laptop is HDMI connected to a monitor, all the desktop edges are clipped (desktop too big for display), correct me if I'm wrong, but this is an overscan problem?

The HP monitor is a 2509M, but that might be irrelevant, except to say that the on-screen configuration options say nothing about overscan, or whether the input is from a PC or TV video source, which some say matters.

The dv6-7000 has the latest NVIDIA 331.82 drivers, and the NVIDIA control panel offers no help WRT overscan or  resizing display or anything useful, as far as I can tell.  I'm not even sure if the NVIDIA hardware/software has anything to do with the HDMI port, maybe that's all Intel 4000...

Speaking of which, the Intel Graphics and Media Control panel says I'm connected to "Digital Television HP 2509M", which seems odd considering I thought there were functional differences between TVs and monitors, and the 2509M is a monitor. The General Settings are shown to be 1920x1080, 32bit, 59p Hz, Maintain Display Scaling.

Installing latest Nvidia drivers on ENVY 17t-j100 Leap Motion with 750M video, need help.

I returned the ENVY 17t-j000 about 6 months ago because I couldn't install the latest Nvidia drivers. My brother has that laptop and after a few months, HP did a BIOS update and now he is able to install the latest Nvidia drivers just fine.

So I decided to try the ENVY 17 again. This time I got the Leap Motion 17t-j100 model with the 750M versus the 740M graphics.

I downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers from Nvidia and it actually installed. Rebooted and everything seemed fine. But it wouldn't let me use the Nvidia Control panel because it would say that the display was not connected to an Nvidia GPU.

So then I tried to the install again, and chose the Clean Install option. But say issue.

Then I did a complete uninstall of the Nvidia drivers and rebooted. Now when I try to install the Nvidia drivers, it says it can't find any compatible hardware. I did this all today with the same single Nvidia download. I am not sure why it installed twice before without any errors and now it claims I don't have an Nvidia card.

So TWO things:

1. Get the latest driver reinstalled again.

2. Solve the "No Nvidia GPU attached" error when trying to use the Nvidia Control Panel.

I have all the latest Windows updates and HP updates. I don't see any BIOS updates. Any ideas?

can't switch from AMD graphics to intel

I recently installed a new hard drive into my DV7 4070 US. I installed the latest drivers for both the AMD and the Intel video cards from the HP website but when I tried to install the intel driver, i got the following error message. My complaint is that when I open up catalyst control center, I cannot switch to my intel card. I want that ability back because of how noisy the AMD card is. I already tried uninstalling both video drivers and reinstalling them. I noticed the GPU z tells me that my Intel card's drivers is the same version number as the AMD driver version availble from the HP website. please help

DVI output from Docking station?

$

Hello,

I have following devices:

  • HP Notebook 6715b with ATI Radeon X1250 display adapter. Notebook itself has VGA port for external monitor. Operating system is Windows 7 64-bit.
  • HP Docking Station with 120W power, part number EN488AA. It has VGA and DVI ports.
  • External monitor Acer G245H. It has VGA, DVI and HDMI ports available to connect.

Using Docking Station, I'm already able to use external monitor using VGA port. But since the image quality is quite poor, I'd like to use DVI output (and possibly DVI to HDMI adapter) to see the notebook desktop in my external monitor. At this point, I'm not able to do that - if only DVI cable is connected between Docking Station and external monitor, the monitor indicates "no signal".

Here's what it looks like in Windows' Display/Screen Resolution page, when DVI cable is connected (I'm looking this from notebook display):

screen_res.png

Changing setting to "Show desktop only to 2" causes notebook display to go black but nothing appears in external monitor - it remains in standby mode and doesn't wake up. Windows desktop returns back to notebook display after 15 seconds since I cannot confirm the change in any screen. So DVI is not "simulated" as VGA in Windows.

When I connect the VGA cable between Docking station and external monitor, selecting "Show desktop only to 2" changes the desktop to external monitor and after confirming the change the settings are now like this.

screen_res2.png

I have tried to install different versions of AMD display drivers. No changes to Display/Screen Resolution page, and AMD Catalyst Control Center (when not crashing) shows options and information only for my CPU, not for display adapter.

Docking station combatibility information says: "DVI is not supported on the HP Compaq 6100, 6300 and 6500 series." But my notebook series (67xx) is not listed, so can I assume that DVI should be supported by my notebook via Docking Station? What can I do or try to get DVI output?
