HP Envy m6 Broken hinge

$

My hinge broke a week after my warranty ran out.  It just popped out of place but the notebook worked fine.  Yesterday, it popped out even further and made a grinding noise.  I looked online and it looks like this is a MAJOR issue with this model.  What do I do?  I am on an extremely tight budget right now.  My top cover looks warped like it is going to bust!  What can I do?

Touchpad

Since Windows 10  was installed (12/24/15), the lock light on the touchpad will not come on to disable the touchpad. I always use wireless mouse, not touchpad. I would like instructions kept simple (old lady lol).

Also noticed mention in my search to resolve this, something about running a Windows Driver Update. Is this part of problem? How do I do that without screwing anything up?

And BTW, after installing '10' my speaker didn't work; my son-in-law fixed (he ran the installation) but I neglected to find out what he did.

Thanks!

Happy New Year,

Keyboard deactivates when I turn my laptop sideways

I like to turn my laptop sideways when I watch movies, but whenever I turn it sideways, my computer auto rotates and turns into touch-screen only and I cannot do the whole ctrl+alt+up arrow thing to de-rotate it. I have it set to not go into tablet mode but that apparently doesn't stop it from rotating, so I'd like to find out how to either 1) stop it from autorotating or 2) activate the keyboard while in touchscreen-only mode so that I can put my screen back to normal.

Display black after Windows Update + followed all advice I can find online

Hi,

I've been trying to fix this for a week, I've tried every combination of solutions I can find online or think of myself, but nothing seems to work.

My computer and display were working perfectly (with Windows 10 already installed some months ago), then one night as I was sleeping some Windows Updates installed, and when I turned my laptop on in the morning the display went black when normally the login screen would appear. Currently I have disabled the AMD drivers and am using the Windows default driver.

I have two other screens, both disconnected at the moment. One connected by HDMI cable, and the other screen connected via USB (using an HDMI to USB adapter and the following driver: Fresco Logic FL2000 USB Display adapter [USB Video Class Device]).

Things I've tried:

  • Disconnecting peripherals before doing all of the following...
  • Removing battery, draining residual power, rebooting, etc...
  • Unchecking 'Fastboot'
  • Uninstalling all AMD drivers (manually, with AMD's Clean Uninstall software, with DDU) before reinstalling them with the methods below. I've gone through this process a million times trying different variations but it the screen always goes black by the end of the installation process.
  • Installing AMD drivers manually and via AMD installation software
  • Installing AMD drivers via HP Support software
  • Updating drivers, chipsets and other elements with HP Support Assistant
  • Installing Beta drivers from AMD website
  • Uninstalling the Windows Update that seemed to create the problem (manually)
  • Refreshing Windows 10 with a fresh copy from the Media Creation Tool and doing the above uninstalls/reinstalls again

Things to note:

  • I can access my laptop's display using TeamViewer from another laptop. Here, when my laptop screen goes black, I can see that everything is still running, and the AMD driver installer continues to install everything. Then it says it's done, thank you for installing... but the screen remains black on my laptop. If I reboot there is no improvement.
  • When I disable the HD8610G driver and leave the R7M260 enabled it reverts to the Microsoft driver and I can at least see what I'm doing on my laptop.

After downloading Windows 10, my mouse pad is not working properly. After typing on the keyboard, the mouse pad takes approx. 5 seconds to respond to my touch. It worked fine before I installed Windows 10, I have ran all the updates available and downloaded Windows 10 PS/2 and SMBus Devices v19.0.19.1 after reading a different thread on the forum.

Hello,

My brand new laptop Envy 17.3 Model:m7-n109dx has an integrated DVD player, but it doesn't seem to let me change the DVD region from US to European. It runs Windows 10.

The Region tab doesn't appear in the DVD properties. Anybody knows how to do it?

Thanks,

HP tech support won't fix a broken screen under warranty

$

Computer tech support rant:

So I treat my electronics with care. For some odd reason a crack on the touchscreen of my HP Pavilion 360 tablet/laptop combo developed recently. The thing is usable, and the crack is underneath the top layer so there is no finger injury if I touch the screen. But it needs fixed, so I filled out the online form to explain my problem for a warranty fix. I was then advised I can call to followup and do a repair option or e-mail correspond. Okay, fine. No problem. I'll call. I can do some things with the phone on speaker.

One hour and 20 minutes later and three foreign call center reps that clearly weren't from the USA (one answered, one was a tech rep, and then he couldn't do the actual send in and fix situation so I went to a cost and repair rep for figuring out how to get it fixed), and I am flaming mad. First, all three repeated what I wrote and asked questions as if I am lying to them, or didn't know what I did wrong. One had the audacity to ask how I close my laptop. Yes ma'am, I slam it down as hard as I can and throw it against the wall to see what happens and make sure it turns off for the night. (I didn't say that, but may as well have.) I take care of my products.

She said it would cost $270 to fix. Wait, $270? She said because it was a screen issue, it costs money. I said it is under warranty. Hardware is under warranty, not software apparently. But this isn't software, it is a HARD component of the unit. I can't just install and uninstall a touchscreen. Nor am I paying $270 plus shipping when I bought this last May for $350. If I'm paying that much to fix a screen, I may as well buy a new unit that is faster and more up to date.

She said she would escalate it to a supervisor. They weren't available after 6 p.m. ET. I said I work next week, leave home at 6:30 a.m. ET and won't be home until after 6 p.m. ET. I said I have to be called after 6 p.m. ET. I can't take time during the day to discuss my PC issues because if this call took 1h20m, I don't have that time at a brand new job.

So, suddenly, they can call me after 6 p.m. ET. When they do on Monday, if it is a foreigner I will demand a precise, clear-speaking English person. I'm not trying to be racist, so falsely accuse me if you wish, but when it comes to communication, and there is a thick problematic accent because English is not their native language in India or wherever they are from, that is a serious issue. If I can't understand the words coming out of their mouth without having to constantly ask to have something repeated or listen super carefully because if I don't I may miss a word that misconstrues the entire sentence, that's not good enough for me. I've been on both ends of customer service, so speaking to an English person *IS* critical, especially when the situation is bad. I want an American on this one.

Either they fix it for free AND fix it on an ASAP speedy process (because quite frankly, I was insulted with how they treated me and the hold times each time to be asked the same questions and made out to be an abuser of my machine), or I am done with HP/Compaq products after 15 years of loyalty to them. I really don't even expect a call Monday from HP. I doubt anyone calls me.

And for what it's worth, when my ex-wife's HP computer had a hinge break, that was hardware. I could have took pliers and broke it on purpose. But they fixed it no issue. But a screen that clearly wasn't cracked by me (trust me, I could take a hammer to it and make it a spider web crack) isn't covered and isn't hardware? What is it? Touchware a new term? If it's not hardware, I want to know what it is. And I don't care about what the warranty says, if you send out a defective product that doesn't last even eight months (if that), you need to fix it. I did not take a hammer to my screen, I did not slam my PC or throw it against something, and it is in a protective case when I travel, and it is put in a safe location when not in use. In fact, I barely use the touch screen. But yet I am made to feel it is my fault and I have to pay $270?

I'd fix it myself with parts on Amazon but it requires completely dismantling the screen part from the keyboard part and it's a mess and not worth it. I'll just buy a new one somewhere and be done with it. But for a crack I didn't cause -- and if they saw it, they'd know because the crack is underneath and not something I can do on top -- and say $270? Kiss my rear. Fix it for free, or lose my business. And I don't ask for free handouts, but when I'm insulted, and when I type out my issue and am given the Spanish Inquisition each time I talk to someone, as if what I typed was a generic lie, I am deeply offended. I have better things to do with 1h20m of my time on a Saturday than to waste it with HP trying to fix their product issue.

Fifteen years from my first Compaq Presario to several HP Pavilion models of desktops and laptops. Six total I've bought from Windows ME to XP to Vista to Windows 8 (and the free 10 upgrade).  Guess it's done now because HP has dropped the ball, unless they come through with a miracle.

Radeon 7690m xt

Recently, when I was using google chrome, my windows 7 64 bit home premium crashed. After that I reinstalled OS (format all before installing )also I installed drivers for amd Radeon hd 7690m xt(download them on hp official website for my model of laptop) but after rebooting OS it crashes.  I googled and found that first I should install drivers for integrity video card which situated on CPU and I have done it but this solution couldn't fix my problem. Also I think that this problems related with catalyst center apps  and switchable mode between integrity and discrete cards(this conclusion I made when I install only drivers for integrity card and windows didn't crash). Please help! You are my last chance!

Hello, My HP dv3-2370ee default OS was corrupted and forced me to install a new one and this time I downloaded Windows 8.1 64 bit. Now the AMD Radeon HD 4550 Hardware doesn't appear at the Device Manager list and I can't Install its driver because the driver installer doesn't detect the AMD Hardware.

Any solutions to this?

Thanks in advance,

PEN COMPATIBILITY FOR HP PAVILION X360??????????

I bought this laptop solely for the purpose of writing my school notes as a tablet. I tried writing on OneNote with a stylus, however it doesn't seem that laptop has support for palm rejection. When I was browsing the settings, i stumbled on the Human Interace Devices section on the Device Manager and it has a HID-complaint pen function. I was wondering if there is a solution for palm rejection within this laptop; perhaps having an digitized pen? If yes, what would be the pen's model?

HDMI Not Registering TV

Hi,

I've searched all through the forums about this and found no solutions to my problem. So I have an HP 15 Notebook PC running on Windows 7. The hard drive is actually from my old laptop that I had transferred into this newer laptop. On the old laptop, it would connect to the TVvia the HDMI perfectly fine. thisone, however, doesn't even register anything being plugged into the HDMI port, and the TV isn't registering it either (a Vizio LED). It's nothing wrong with the cord, it's the same cord as I used on my previous laptop and use for my video game consoles, even tried my backup HDMI cord with no difference.

I have tried turning on and off the computer, downgrading my resolution to low as 800x680 (or whatever it is), etc. with no success. The HDMI even connects to my girfriend's laptop which, while on Windows 8, is an older HP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Touchscreen not functioning

Hello!

I've been having issues with my Touchscreen for quite a while now.

I've gone through trying to update the drivers and all the various fixes I can find on the forums but my issue seems to be that there are no drivers installed for my Touchscreen at all. I can't find it in the Device Manager and I have no idea where to download the drivers for it since I don't know who manufactured the touchscreen.

I'm on Windows 10 and have a couple other issues but let's do one step at a time.

Any help is appriciated.

Thank you!

Forgot to mention: I thought maybe restoring the computer to factory condition would help... it didn't. Problem still persists.
