For some reason my laptop does not want to use the full amount of available screen area. I've reinstalled video/graphics drivers and checked all screen display size and resolution settings.
As you can see below the start button there is some sort of screen hicup going on.
Is there a way i can test the entire screen to see if can get video in the black area?
Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks, Brian
This happened once before and I was able to resolve with a recent windows restore. This time, windows can't complete the restore due to missing cortana file or something. I know my screen isnt damaged because when it starts up, it is at it's proper brightness. The keyboard buttons attempt to change the brightness, but the cursor doesn't move like it is locked in place. Thank you in advance if this is a repeat question and I am just not bright enough to resolve this on my own.

Upgraded to windows 10 which lets face it was prompted by the software loaded by HP onto my lap top. Maching only has onboard graphics and ive downloaded the up to date drivers but no hdmi port output . Customer 10 per minute helpline can only say to me that maybe the port isnt compatable with windows 10 - rubbish .
Surely the company here should be supporting folks like me who have now purchased 4 HP machines over the last 6 years with what for a techy person must be a simple walk through fix. No the only option is to pay £12.50 for the paid support which im told by the helpline may not work anyway.
Surely a great example of customer service gone bad !
Whilst this is a customer forum its of course monitored and id welcome a company reply as there seems to be no simple way to complain !
I was using the Extend to second screen option, when it stopped working half way through and now will not work. The OS still detects the second screen, and identifies it correctly however no video is coming up. I have used a different monitor and that will not work either.
When I unplug the HDMI cable it knows that the second screen has been removed, but no signal is getting through.
Please help!
I recently updated to Windows 10 and have been having some issues ever since. First of all, my touchpad mouse will have a delay if I momentarily stop using it. It is incredibly annoying. After I momentarily stop using it, it takes about 3-5 seconds of me moving the mousepad for it start working again. I've already set the mouse delay to 'Never,' but this has not resolved the issue. I've also updated the driver and set options to default. None have helped.
Also, my computer screen brightness suddenly went dim. When I click the f2 and f3 keys, it won't adjust, rather it just shows that it's staying at no brightness. I tried to change it manually through the settings, but that didn't help. The settings show that my screen brightness is at its' highest. Can someone please help me with these two problems?
after upgrading to windows 10 the notebook keeps shutting down instantly. usually it happens when the screen start flickering ( the graphic card crashes and then the laptop) and when i try to install the latest AMD Radeon drivers from windows update.

it seems to be a graphic card issues since it happens when the screen flickers.
I have tried sfc /scannow and DISM /online/ Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth in case there is an issue with windows 10 but nothing.

I have a new Samsung LED TV and I am trying unsuccessfully to connect my laptop to it through a HDMI connection. The TV does not recognize the connection. The connection worked fine with my laptop my previous (plasma) TV. And the HDMI IN port on the TV works fine when I connect my satellite box to that port. So it doesn't seem to be a TV problem. The Samsung instruction asks me to turn TV and laptop off, connect the HDMI cable, then turn TV and laptop on, then press the Function key to F5, or F7, or F9 on my laptop to activate the laptop screen on the TV. No cigar. I tried all the Fn keys. Still no cigar. Is there some sort of other setting that I should activate on my laptop ? Thank you for your assistance anybody...
I have an HP laptop and docking station in my classroom. A ceiling mounted data projector is connected to the vga socket in the docking station. I am trying to set up a second monitor. So, the second monitor works if I unplug the projector from the docking station and plug in the 2nd monitor to the docking station vga socket . It also works if I undock the laptop and plug the 2nd monitor into the laptop vga socket. However, the 2nd monitor is not detected if I am docked and it is plugged into the vga socket on the laptop. Is there ANY way to get the 2nd monitor to work while it is still docked in the docking station?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
I recently purchased an HP Envy 17t n100 for my wife as a birthday present. The Box arrived on the 16th of October without any signs of shipping damage. So I wrapped it up when she wasn't around and left it for her to find, all really excited for her during this whole time. That night she opened it up and loved it, was really super happy with it. Said it was the best gift shes ever got. But when it came time to turning it on once the battery was topped up the FIRST thing we see on the BIOS boot screen was this really bright spot on the upper left end of the monitor. We were both gutted instantly. I said it will probably go away once the computer has been on for a while. But I knew that wasn't the case, just lying to myself cause I couldnt believe the state of the monitor on this brand new machine.
She said she was just gonna try to ignore it, it's been a week now and ignoring it has proven to be impossible. This spot is waaay worse than any standard light bleed I've ever seen. Other areas of the monitor have some bleed but they all fall into the "reasonable" range that people simply have to accept with these displays, no display can truly be perfect so I have no problem with the other bleed. But this bleed is so bad I think there's something actually wrong with the monitor. In trying to diagnose what's causing it, I very gently put some pressure on the monitor edge and worked my way to the bad spot and noticed that the display didnt react to pressure in that spot as if its already fully compressed. Theres no give in that area. So maybe something was overly tightened at the factory so the pressure is messing up that part of the display?
So I was curious what, if anything, can be done about this? I have the standard warranty, so no extra support frills. But I really want this display repaired or, if need be, replaced with a new one that doesn't have this un-ignorable degree of light bleed/flashlighting. She's absolutely in love with the machine, the aesthetic/design and everything else about it but this one thing is really ruining everything else that's great about her laptop. So if theres anything that can be done please let me know, shes deserves a great gift, and I really want to get this thing perfect for her.

I recently purchased a new HP Envy laptop which is supposed to play CDs and DVDs. I tried inserting a DVD movie and nothing happens. It works fine with data DVDs though and opens right up. I've tried changing the default video player from Movies & TV to Power Media Player with no luck. I then tried the old standby WMP, and I could hear sound, but when I opened the program, there was still no picture. What's wrong?
By the way, I was very disappointed that HP no longer allows for blu-rays.
Microsoftsays they won't upgrade my Win 8.1 HP Pavilion notebook PC to Win 10 because the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 is incompatible. I see much talkon boards about other GeForce cards/displays but not seeing anything specific to 7600. Not too savvy about hardware so not sure where to turn. Input, please!
I am having a problem with my laptop screen display.
A while ago the screen started to flicker a lot, especially when I moved the screen but would then work normally for a while after that. Sometimes the screen would go off and it would take a lot of moving the lid to get it back.
I shone a light on it and the display was still there, so it seems to be a backlight problem.
Once it got very bad and completely stopped working, I changed the LED screen (on the advice of a computer repair man).
However the problem seems to have resurrected, with some flickering again tonight.
Would this likely be a cable problem, or motherboard or is it time to chuck it in the bin?

a colleague wanted to buy a computer and I suggested HP for him so he decided to buy HP Envy. The device comes with two display adapters one of which is the Intel HD 520.
A strage error is happening. When trying to open some websites using MS Edge or IE like the website of the Bank of America, the display driver crashes and shows a notication that the "Intel Drivers for Windows 8(R) crashed".
I looked for the most recent drivers here on the website and updated to the latest rev. D driver, restarted the computer and tried to reproduce the problem. The same problem occured. He then returned the computer and they told him it might be a hardware issue so they gave him a new out of the box laptop.
But the exact same problem has occured. Trying out Google Chrome has succeeded and the problem did not occur.
What is the problem then guys?

I'm trying to connect an older samsung 2243 samsung syncmaster monitor to my newish hp pavilion laptop which is running windows 10 with intel i3.
The monitor has a VGA output and I am using the HDMI input on my laptop with an adaptor.
fn+f4 wont let me select duplicate or extend. the monitor switchs on but just displays 'no source found'. I've tried going into control panel - monitors and trying the 'detect' button with no luck.
Any help with this issue would be massivley appreciated.

Hello, I have a HP Mini 110 with broken display and I need reinstall windows but when I try get in BIOS on external display it don't show nothing, just black screen until windows try to load.
I try everything but dont work, is there any way to get into BIOS from external display or it just not work?

I have had this computer less than a year. No prolems until last month. Playing videos from online (streaming) and also from hard drive. All video is freezing and delaying as it plays. I have already tried updating video and audio drivers. I have also reset computer back to factory settings and factory reset. How do I fix this problem?
I'm trying to install to install driver for my graphic card (amd 7470m) but the only one i can find here is from 2011.
Is that really the latest driver because i can't find any other and i have issues with this one.
Drivers on official amd site are for 7000m series but they don't work for my card.
