After taking my laptop to a repair shop (to explore a possible faulty harddrive), they installed Windows 7 Ultimate (I originally had Window 7 Home Premium 64 bit).
Now I am running into error messages about graphics when installing games or even playing preloaded games like Solitaire -- especially about accelerator and 3D.
The Device Manager says I have "Standard VGA Adapter". When I go to Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings, the Monitor Troubleshoot Tab shows Acceleration at the maximum end of the scale. BTW Chiptype: Intel Ironlake Mobile 8 8 bit.
The original sticker on the laptop says it was preloaded with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD. When I go to Intel, they have accelerator drivers for download, but suggest using specific manufacturers' drivers. When I check for drivers at support.HP.com they show two graphics drivers for this laptop, NVIDIA and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (no series #)
I downloaded and installed HP's version Intel GMA. Upon restart I got a black screen of death after the Windows Welcome. I rebooted in Safe Mode and restored to a prior point, so I'm back where I started with the Standard VGA Adapter. (actually tried this twice, same results)
Is the Intel GMA from HP the correct/compatible version to download?
Do I need to uninstall the Standard VGA before installing the GMA?
Also I'm noticing problems with controlling the mouse and cursor -- it's jumpy and seems to be on a hair trigger. Could this be related to the graphics card problems?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
