Do not change display when closing lid

Hi,

I have a HP 250 G3 laptop with i3 CPU and Geforce 820M graphic card, actually with dual card, because it has  an Intel GPU too.

The OS is Win8 64bit.

I attached a TV to it through HDMI.

In the Power Options I set to do nothing when the lid is closed.

The laptop monitor is the primary display.

I always use either the laptop monitor or the TV, not both.

My problem is, when I closing the lid, it switches the display to TV and when opening again, switches back to the laptop monitor.

I don't want this functionality, I want to change the displays only manually.

As I said, in windows I already set it to "Do nothing" when closing the lid, so I assume it controlled by one of the graphic drivers or by the bios itself.

How can I disable this behavior?

Thanks,

Norbert

So there is some vertical lines in the screen and it seems cracked in the upper middle of it.
also horizontal lines about three inches from the top.

Want to know if it is the video card or the display that is broken, and if so, can i repair it. It seems to be the display since i can print screen without the damages of the screen.

Cant Update Radeon 6770m For HP DV6-6047cl

Hi Hp users.

I have a HP dv6-6047cl running Win 7 64bit with Radeon 6770m graphics card.

My problem is I cannot update the Radeon Driver past version 8.882

I have tried with official AMD mobility drivers 14.1 and 12.10 and can install these but when I go to device manager the radeon card then has a yellow exclamation mark and windows will not use the driver. I get error code 52.

I have tried the latest graphic update sp54471.exe from the hp support page but i get a message saying "this computer idoes not meet minimum requirements for installing"   The sp54471 driver is version 8.15.10.2291 from 2015 and looks to be the driver I want to install.

The automatic update on windows will only give me version 8.8 from 2011. Is it possible to get a better driver or install a different one that is more current.   i.e 2013/14?

Help would be very much appreciated.  As I find it hard to run current games. with these old drivers.

Thank you!!  :smileyhappy:

Envy M6 no longer goes to sleep when not in use

My Envy M6 1200 (W8) will no longer go to sleep to save battery or power when plugged in. The screen will stay eluminated until the battery completly dies. If you look at the screen every minute or two it flashes. It will flash by the tabs if browsing online or it will flash by the file, insert... etc if working on microsoft word or excell. Which leads me to beleive that something is running causing the computer to believe that the computer is still in use which is why it will no longer go to sleep.  The battery also seems to drain when i have it shut down for a day or two and if i leave a flash drive in a USB port it keeps running power to it. I dont know if that is a seperate issue or not.  Does anyone else have this problem and is there a solution??

Trying to connect to external video viewing equipment (T.V., Epson projector) with a good HDMI cable and says HDMI is not supported. Cannot get the Power Point file or any video to project using HDMI. Have attempted changing settings but nothing works. The projector will work with the VGA connection. Does anyone have a known solution to this issue?

Screen not working on HP Pavilion g6 notebook

So my Hp Pavilion G6 laptop screen went out last August.  I have been using an external monitor since then and I am currently using this PC to write this.  Functionality other than the screen is 100%.  My question is: Is this an issue that can be resolved by replacing the screen? I know my dads G7 screen went out but you can't see anything on the external monitor and a computer tech told him that something on the motherboard was bad that it really didn't have to do with the screen.  I need this computer for my work and am highly hoping that I will be able to salvage it with just a screen repair.  Thanks!

White Laptop Screen

I think there may be a virus on my laptop. after start up, the laptop displays a white screen. sometimes it will be a clear picture if i move the laptop screen a certain way, which led me to believe it was a screen problem. But then I connected it to an external display and it displayed the white screen on the external display as well. What do you think the problem may be? I thought maybe a virus.

ProBook 4540s running hot when discreet graphics are engaged

My ProBook has been a lemon since day one. It had a bevy of issues, and HP was very reluctant to fix any of them under warranty. Bad keyboard, bad wireless module, the optical drive wouldn't read HP's own recovery DVDs. A hideous stain on the left palmrest appeared over months, not years of consistent use. I've got an old Apple PowerBook "Pismo" that I used for nearly seven years, not a mark on it from my palm. Same with a half dozen other systems. I had to send it to their repair depot twice, and the second time required intervention from the State of California's consumer protection division. Apparently HP ignores the BBB now, even though I'd had a claim in with them for over six month before going to the State. It's gotten me to the point where I will never invest in another HP again, even a business-grade system. They should have recognized that this thing was a lemon and swapped it out for another machine, but they didn't because they don't understand how to treat the people who keep them in business. Sadly, people get burned and still keep coming back, so HP never learns. Whatever. Two years into a machine that should have lasted me another two to three years, and a new problem that HP will simply ignore.

The AMD Radeon video is now running a lot hotter than it used to. I keep a microfiber cloth on the left palmrest to prevent the same horrible blotching from before, but while playing Team Fortress 2 I started noticing the system was running hotter. The cloth had shielded my hand, but when I remove it the surface of the left palmrest is almost too hot to touch. I've played TF2 on the Intel HD 4000 chipset before, and thought it might be best to just use that, so I switched discreet graphics off in the BIOS, but that lead to a load of errors, having to reinstall the Intel video drivers, and the loss of external video support for my 2nd display. I had to re-enable it.

I'm not familiar with scenarios where bad software causes video cards to run hot, so the only things I can think of are, the most likely, that the fan is broken or failing, or less likely, the heatsink paste has failed. One "feature" the 4540s is lauded for is how quiet it runs. Well, I don't want it to run quietly. I'd like to hear the fan, but I can't even force it. I've installed SpeedFan, but it reports that the two "fans" on the AMD video do not turn. Even GPU-Z won't see the fans RPMs, but reports that the fan is running at 100%. With conflicting information, I have really learned nothing. It remains clear, however, that HP is not to be trusted with the production of reliable business systems.

My Dell Venue 8 Pro with Windows 8.1 runs faster, reboots far quicker, and responds better than my 4540s. I can't even reliably boot from a thumb drive. The Dell has a single microUSB port, and I can boot it into Ubuntu. Just plain silly to suggest my 4540s isn't a lemon.

Oh well. This has just turned into a rant against HP. So be it. However, if you have any ideas about the AMD heat, I'd love to hear them. Even from HP lovers who are blinded by the luck of the draw :smileywink:

IMy battery light is blinking, however,  the battery guide shows that it is fully charged. If I unplug the computer it goes dead. Do I need a new battery?

Thank you.
