'Monitor going to sleep' - where is the problem?

$

I have a 5 month old HP 15-G094SA laptop and the backlight has gone. I purchased the laptop in the UK but won't be back in the country until May. I have been told that the whole screen will need to be replaced, which I expect the shop I bought it from to do when I go back.

In the meantime I have bought a HP LV1911 monitor so that I can still use the laptop. The laptop does not have a VGA port, just HDMI and the monitor is VGA. I have bought a 'Multistar HDMI to VGA convertor'. However, when I connect the laptop to the monitor via the convertor the monitor only displays 'Monitor Going to Sleep'. I have seen some other posts with this issue and have looked at the online monitor manual but this hasn't helped. In some cases it says that you need to reset something on the laptop, I can't do any of this as I can't see the laptop display.

I'm not very computer savvy so I don't know if there's a simple thing that I haven't done or if the convertor doesn't work or if there's more wrong with the laptop than just the backlight.

I know the monitor does work as I used it with another laptop that was a simple VGA to VGA connection. I think it is only the laptop backlight which is broken as at the computer shop they connected it to their monitor and it worked.

Any help to fixing this issue would be much appreciated as it's getting very frustrating! Thank you :smileyhappy:

Dv7 Powers on but doesn't boot

HI, I have a HP Pav Dv7-4020sa which I'm hoping someone can help fix for me. It was all working just fine, I was running a virus-scan, when I checked on progress the system had shutdown. Now, when I power up, all I get is a blank screen, no cursor. Power comes on, the CAPS lock light flashes on/off, the wifi light (orange) stays on, no response from keyboard, fan is turning.

I've removed battery, HDU, keyboard, CMOS battery, WLAN card, powered on-nothing, held power button on for 60 seconds as someone has suggested and nothing changes. Systes boots, nothing on screen, caps lock light flashes.

The HDU is fine as I've chcked that in another PC - any ideas any one?

Thank in advance,

Martin

screen resolution

I recently upgraded to windows 8.1 and have lost screen resolution with  the right margin coming in approximatley 1/2 and the bottom margin below the screen.  I have re-installed graphic drivers and all other recommended downloads/upgrades from HP Support Assistant but that has not corrected the problem.  Screen resolution is set at the recommended 1280x800.  Is there some other remedy for this?  Thanks

G62-34OUS Notebook displays black screen

We've had black screens before, maybe once every 6 months or so. Turning off the computer, unplugging it & depressing the power button for more than 15 seconds has always yielded positive results, ie. a working notebook.

This morning we got another black screen, but the above procedure did not work. We grabbed a spare monitor and have been able to access the internet by using the keyboard & monitor that is plugged into the external monitor port of the notebook.  We've tried letting the computer fix itself, starting the computer while tapping F8 and then clicking on the option of "low resolution video", in hopes of getting the screen to respond and thinking we'd be able to download the appropriate updates.  It did not, and during the last attempt the screen froze.  We restarted the notebook and as of now, we can still access the internet.

One other challenge is that we don't have the white label on the bottom of the notebook with the model, serial number & other pertanent info.  I think we bought this through WalMart 4 years ago, knowing it was a "barebones" device that would only be a conduit to get online & use social media, with occasional searches .... There really is not much in the way of heavy software on it to bog it down or tax it in any way.

We could really use some ideas on what to try next.  We're not overly tech savvy, so simple remedies would be best, but we're willing to try almost anything. ...

I have posted two photos below that I hope will say it all. The external monitor has the image 100%, so I am thinking that it may be some sort of cable or ribbon that may be worn out and need replacing? Any help/ input would be oh so very appreciated!   -   model # X16 - 1354CA

Club 3D CSV-5300A on HP Envy 15-3040NR Laptop

Recently purchased the CSV-5300A displayport hub to try and get my 3 external monitor set up to work.

I am trying to get the 3 x Dell U2414H monitors running in extended mode.

The 3 x Dell U2414H’s I have, when set up in daisy chain mode, does not work. Despite setting the monitors up to DP 1.2 MST mode in the monitor menu – they only mirror, and are not recognised as independent monitors in Device Manager (only recognises one Dell U2414H (Displayport).

I then plugged in the MST Hub, but it also only displays in mirror mode. Device Manager also reports only seeing one monitor.

I have also set the BIOS Non-Switchable graphics, but that does not resolve my issue.

AMD drivers have also been updated to the latest. It is suppose to show a Displayport option, but it does not.

Intel Display drivers are also updated.

BIOS is also the latest BIOS available from HP.

HP Material does not advise which version of DP it handles, however the outside indicates a D++ on it, so I am assuming it is 1.2 Standard.

My set up is as follows:

Laptop – HP Envy 15-3040NR
OS: Windows 8.1 64Bit
Product Number: A9P60UA
Processor: Core i7-2670QM Quad Core
Graphics Device 1: AMS Radeon 660M and 6700M
Graphics Device 2: Intel HD Graphics 3000
External Monitor model: 3 x Dell U2414H Monitors

Please help.

Display not working, external monitor does

My hdd failed and I replaced it and used the HP factory recovery disks. The video cable had a short in it near the hinge. After I put it back together and turned it on, I heard an electrical "pop" near the top of the keyboard. The display only shows a grey/black screen. It does light up white on the backside. My tv monitor works totally fine.

I already replaced the video cable and tried a new screen. I have done system recovery several times. Memory and hardware diagnostics checks fine. Same problem. I don't know if the "pop" is related to the problem or not. Could it be the invertor? Is there a replaceable video card? Thanks in advance!!

HP Envy 15 Display Pixelization/Distortion

Am having an issue with an HP Envy 15 Laptop Model E0M40UA#ABA.

AMD A10 5750M with Radeon HD Graphics 2600

We started having issues with a distorted screen with random pixels across all apps.

I have updated BIOS to the latest version from HP.

I did a full system restore and upgraded to Windows 8.1 and updated all the drivers.   No change to the display.

I connected the laptop to a digital display via the HDMI output and the distorted pixels also displayed on the external display.

When you are in the system screens such as the BIOS update or CMOS settings, the display is crystal clear so doesn't appear to be a display/cable issue.  The distortion is first seen on the windows signon screen.

I would appreciate any guidance on possible fixes.

Thanks in advance for the help!

A while ago my harddrive crashed... I have replaced it and got my laptop working again. There is still a issue though. When I got to use my web cam on skype it just puts a picture of "CyberLink". This is odd because my laptop has HP Media Smart. I have not been able to get the product name because the webcam is not showing up at all in the device manager.
