My laptop screen when in the open position will freeze and fade to white over time. If i adjust the screen i can get the picture back and carry on as normal. The problem is getting more frequent to the point where i have to hold the screen to keep the picture there. When i use the laptop through an external monitor it works perfectly.

Below is a picture of the white screen:

Does anyone know what is the likely cause of the problem or has any advice on how i can diagnose it? I'm hoping to fix this myself so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

hi,

sent laptop in for repair of hard drive a few days ago got it back today, and when trying to connect to my monitor by pressing F4 i get a pop up saying "your PC can't project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card. Cn someone point me in the direction of the correct driver to install, it's not the video card as its the same one that's been in the laptop since purchase and worked perfect before i sent it in for repair.

thanks for your help

HP Pavilion dv6-6b50sa Entertainment Notebook PC graphics driver

My apologies in this is in the wrong forum

Due to recent issue with my HP Pavilion dv6-6b50sa Entertainment Notebook PC (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/Wireless-and-other-problems-Pavillion-DV6/m-p/4873566#M67043), the repair company did a full factory reset. When I installed IE11 (along with many other updates), it has left a black band on the right-hand side of the screen (only in IE11) and when I use IE, it can crash the computer, igdpmd64.sys (page fault in unpaged area). I have had this problem before about 18-24 months ago and updated the graphics drivers and this cured the problem. Given that I had performed this fix quite some time ago, I could not remember which driver I had to use as I have two display adaptors listed in the device manager (intel HD Graphics family and Radeon HD 6490M). I initally tried the intel driver (sp54470.exe) and it said that the computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software. I thought i would then try the amd driver, and this is where my problems begin.

In the previous thread, I was given a link to the drivers page for my laptop, when I tried to get to a list of driver files to download, after confirming my operating system (W7 - 64 bit), all I get is the 4 square icon continually cycling round. I tried @hpsupport on twitter to see if they could help (https://twitter.com/adewar1979/status/564914591877312513 ). @HPsupport directed me to the amd website to download it the driver from there, unsure as to what to download, I opted for the autodetect utility to download and install the relevant drivers. (http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/mobile?os=Windows%207%20-%2064), AMD Mobility Radeon™ DriverOmega (14.12).

Once the install process had completed, the computer reported that no amd driver had been installed and in the device manager, the two graphics adaptors (intel HD Graphics family and Radeon HD 6490M) had exclamation marks beside them. I immediatly did a system restore to revert the changes. Should I have installed the optional AMD Chipset Drivers instead? If not, does anyone have an alternative link (or the filename) to the correct driver as the HP driver website is unresponsive for me.

With thanks in advance

Alastair

As the title says, when the laptop boots its a blank screen. Caps lock/numlock lights aren't on, wifi (f12) is orange, power light is on. You can hear the fan speed up to the max at start then it spins normally. I've tried hard reset, external monitor (still black) even applied thermal compound to both the cpu/gpu. Still the same .. What could be wrong ? Only thing i haven't done is resolder the gpu back; video :

HP Pavilion dv7-4270us.                            Product #XZ826UA#ABA

AMD / ATI switchable graghics. The HD 6300 ati drivers disappear after use / restart. I have to reinstall both HP  sp50599.exe/ then ati 13-9 legacy drivers. It works for a short period then drops the High Def video graphics out and theDirect X11. The 4200 drivers are fine in Device Manager but no HD 6300 drivers. I think they were the 6300 series can not check until I reinstall GPU Drivers because they Dont show up in Device Manager. Also Think the Radeon Mobility is a M880.  Checked for hardware changes and  found none.  The AMD uninstaller didnt allow Direct X 11 to run properly, it ran slow and hot even on lowest settings, if the Direct X 11 work at all. With the DDU uninstaller it runs beautifully does not run hot and the Game default settings are almost to the top end. Beautifull graphics and very smooth controls. But now the drop out Issue with Display Drivers. I use the xbox 360 pc hand controller instead of key board via USB port. I did not have a problem with any top end games (Deus Ex human Resources, Tomb Raider, Batman Arkham City.) Until I ran FFXIII-2 it is a terrible console port and taxed my graphic system and crashed it. First noticed HD Audio dropped then realized that that HD Display controller was not functioning. Now when i reinstall the Display Drivers other Direct X II games cause the crash. Some kind of missing root kit?     Thank You for any Help,

The full name of the product is the HP Pavilion 14 notebook PC 14-v024ca. It has a 14.0"diagonal HD led display, no touchscreen. The product number is G6s31ua#abl.  On  Tuesday February 10 2015, I closed it and left it charging overnight while it was still on. The next day when i unplugged the cord, the moniter was blank, but the computer was on. I tried to shut it down and turn it on again, but the monitor remained blank and unresponsive even though the computer was on. I took out the battery and inserted it back in and restarted, but the same thing happened. Now when I Turn the computer on, the monitor remains completely blank and the only thing i notice is that the conputer fan still works. Please help me fix the monitor problem ! Thanks.

Need driver

I had a hard drive crash, and put in a new one, then installed a fresh 64 bit Windows 7. Everything is working except the display, which is stretched horizontally. The only driver for video installed is for a VGA PnP. There is another video shown in hardware, which has the same number as the product. However it has no driver. I think it needs a "PCI Simple Communications Controller." How do I get that?

I have a ENVY 17 a that's- connected to a secondary monitor via HDMI

and it stops working every once so often.

1.) When I installed additional memory (from 6GB to 16GB -4gb+2gb to 8gb+8gb-)

2.) Windows Update (occasionally)

But after visiting HP`s Computer Model Web Page and updating the BIOS

the secondary monitor or the HDMI starts working again

Is there a solution to besides updating the BIOS to the same ver. repeatedly

or is this the only solution.

Black Screen after Mandatory Auto Update

I recently was FORCED and instructed to update my HP Spectre XT TouchSmart Ultrabook.  I didn't want to babysit the notebook while it did the "updating" procedure, so I left it alone.  Now, all I get after I press the power button is a nice black screen.

Past (background): I was forced (yes, first time around) to update from Windows 8.0 to 8.1.  Got the first black screen.  Discovered that there was an issue with a driver not compable with the notebook.  Took it back to Microsoft (still underwarranty) and they "downgraded" from 8.1 to 8.0.

Present: I googled for help and tried everything and the following (not in order):

  1. Power down and power up and continuously pressing F1 - Result: Keyboard light is on, Caps Lock not blinking, Wifi key on, Fan on and off
  2. Power down and power up and continuously pressing F2- Result: Same as 1
  3. Power down and power up and continuously pressing F10- Result: Same as 1
  4. Power down and power up and continuously pressing F12- Result: Same as 1
  5. Holding down Window and B, Press Power for 1 second and releasing Power (while holding down Window and B) - Result: Same as 1.
  6. Holding down Window and B, Press Power for 2 second and releasing Power (while holding down Window and B) - Result: Same as 1.
  7. Holding down Window and B, Press Power for 3 second and releasing Power (while holding down Window and B) - Result: Same as 1.
  8. Holding down Window and B, Press Power for 1, 2 AND 3 second(s) and releasing Power AND Window and B - Result: Same as 1.
  9. Call HP Consumer: Tech asked me to try steps 2,3, & 4.  Nada, transfered me to Business Tech (b/c i have an ultrabook).  Business Tech transfered me back to Consumer Tech.  Consumer Tech kindly informed me that I'm S.O.L.-ed and for $59.99 they can support me for 30(?) days.  But for $99, I get support for the same problem for 365 days.

Needless to say, my problem is still unresolved.

Future: Paperweight.

Funny how my notebook crashed/blacked out after a forced update thereby requiring me to pay to fix a "hardware" issue.  If you're in the same boat, let me know.

HP Envy M6-1125DX Broken Hinge

I have an HP envy m6-1125dx laptop; the left hinge broke a while back. I was using it as is but in due time everything got far worse. Now all I have is ripped out LCD screen and the basis of the computer. I am using my laptop as a desktop.  When the issue first started I tried anything from tape to glue to make it work. Since the issue started right around the time the warranty expired I did not try any course of action. However I would like you guys to know that this is not the first time I am seeing the issue. Starting from pavillions until envy I have seen many cases where the hinges gets ripped out. And to be honest it looks like it is the same in the new form factor. I have receipts and serial numbers whole 9 yards. Thank you for reading.

Black screen on HP 2000-2133TU

This happened when I tried to install win 8 to my laptop. At the windows install screen I formated the partition which had the earlier OS and when I clicked the next button an error message came stating "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR Partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT." so I went to bios and disabled the EFI boot sources and saved exit. the laptop restarted but I missed the "press any key to boot" screen and it went to the next screen and a message came that no operating system was found and to press f2, I can't exactly remember the name of that option it was stated like "startup test" or "system diagnostic" I accidently pressed f2 and a black screen appeared with a cursor blinking on the top right corner and I waited till something shows up but nothing came so I pressed and hold the power button to shut the laptop off and I on it again but nothing showed up even the POST screen didn't come. the capslock light blinks 2 times every 2 or 3 seconds. that is all.
