Hi,
I bought the laptop less than 4 months ago for home office use.
It has been used occasionally as I still have my HP desktop which I have had for over 7 years. Anyway, no more than 4 weeks ago I was adjusting the screen for viewing purposes and thought nothing. It was a few minutes later though noticed by my wife that there was a crack in the screen. Anyway, I waited until I had some time off from work through the Christmas/New Year period and took it back to Currys in North West London where it was purchased. They took it back in and agreed for their technicians to sort it.
Anyway received a call today and they stated that it must have been done with excessive force or dropped. Neither has been the case, it has been totally looked after and I explained both in the shop and to the technicians that I have done some research online and have found numerous other complaints of the same thing happening on the HP forum.
It is a manufacturing defect and amongst my honours I am a fully qualified computer engineer(albeit I don't practise for a living).
Anyway Currys told me to contact HP, so I did, and HP have come up with the same excuse and I explained once again to them the same. It has been now escalated and I am awaiting a call back.
In the meantime I have contacted Which consumer rights magazine and also have prepared something for BBC Televison Watchdog.
I have been buying HP for almost 20 years and have never had any issues, I have currently a desktop and an officejet pro 8500a and have no issues.
This treatment though is not acceptable and I won't be thinking twice whether to buy any more HP products ever again though and I won't be advising either anyone else to buy HP.
I understand this forum is monitored so I await a response
