Black bar on the right side of my monitor

I have an hp dv5t-1200se since 2009.  When I turned on my computer this morning, I noticed a black bar (approx. 2.5 inches thick) on the right side of my screen.  I also have part of my top screen showing up on the bottom screen.  The bar for the bottom screen is approximately 3/4 inch thick.  I have searched different forums online with several people experiencing the same problem.  I have tried adjusting the screen resolution, and it seems to already be on the highest setting.  I have also made sure that my computer has all the latest updates.  Any help with resolving this issue is greatly appreciated.

Pavilion dv7 1130en no sound over HDMI

Sorry but I shall start another thread on the same topic, as none of what I have read is getting any deeper. Same situation: plugging HDMI into LCD TV and notebook (Pavilion dv7-1130en FP911EA#ABB, NVIDIA 9600) result in good picture, but no sound. I have removed the devices, installed latest drivers, I can see even the bar moving in sound settings when some movie plays - but no sound coming, not even sample could be played. What I would like to draw attention to is the fact that when the notebook has been initially set up some 5-6years ago, there was a dialog window at some early point, mentioning some problems with assigning the digital audio output, and at that point I remember that I selected SPDIF deliberately to avoid those mentioned problems. I thought that I would be dealing with SPDIF vs HDMI subject not earlier than I would have any - so it appears that now is the time. Could anybody at HP please remind me how I could find the place where I could select HDMI as default digital sound output instead of SPDIF? doing so in Sound panel does not do the trick, must be something else.

Blank screen after running new BIOS Elitebook

I just bought an HP Elitebook second hand that ran excellent except the headphone jack either didn't work or it was missing some sort of plugin to make it work.

Long story short I had a friend look at it and he tried to run a new BIOS on it. The laptop froze and the screen went blank. After trying to reboot, the screen was black still. Subsequent tries to start it up result in the caps and num lock keys flashing 3 times and a black screen. I'm sorry if this issue has already been discussed and solved but I couldn't seem to find anything that seemed to mirror my problem. Any help is appreciated! I just wanted to be able to use headphones and ended up with a much bigger problem!

HP Pavilion dv6t 6000 Quad Edition Switchable Graphics Problem

$

I'm really frustrated because I've been trying to fix this issue with this computer I just got on my own for the last two days and then just called HP support, but they seem to be completely useless. My entire life I've bought HP computers and have suggested it to friends, but this time the cup is full. Every time I buy a new one, more problems arise than with the previous one, but let's get to business:

I have an HP Pavilion dv6t 6000 Quad Edition with Switchable graphics. Specifications are as described below: (Don't hesitate to ask for more, but I doubt the usefulness of other kinds of info)

Processor: Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00 Ghz, RAM: 8.00 GB, HDD: 750 GB and it has Intel and Radeon HD 6770M Graphics installed - It's running Windows 7 64-bit ...

The problem that occurs is that about 30 seconds (sometimes just one second, sometimes a few minutes, but 30 seconds on average) after I switch to AMD Graphics, the computer freezes, regardless of its thermal state. However, the secondary graphics (Intel HD 3000) are just fine, that's what I am using to write this post.

I've tried updating windows to its best, so it has every Windows Update available installed. I updated the BIOS, and the graphics card drivers but they only seem to have made it worse.

Please, I'm really frustrated as I have spent this month's vacation working on this, if any of you knows a solution, let me know, even if it's an unofficial one (as long as it's some kind of open source, so I can take a look at it before installing, or good feedback exists - and to you HP guys against this statement: It would be more profitable and customer-friendly to HP if me and other people with this laptop kept their laptops, rather then returning them, and if you want to keep your customers, you gotta give them things that work, so please don't get in the way. Other customers looking into these forums would be more likely to buy an HP product if they saw a real solution to this even if that means using an unofficial driver release then looking at a dictatorial-like "{Link Removed}" response). Or if anyone's working on writing a new driver, be it an hp/amd employee or not, please let me know so I can help, since I've been programming embedded systems for a while, but I'm completely clueless where to start on my own.

It is ironic that yesterday, my other hp computer's graphics died (so trust me I can tell that this other one's graphics are intact, it's just the driver) and I was so looking forward this weekend to playing some computer games, but it seems like it wasn't meant to be. I'll try to solve this issue in 2 days, otherwise I will have to return the laptop as many people have already ...

Looking forward to your answers!

Note: I'm really frustrated, so make sure that you read carefully what I already tried if you don't want to get a rude answer, but of course don't hesitate to ask for more information or whether I tried something that I didn't state above.

TX2 laptop monitor stopped displaying native resolution

Hi guys,

I have a very odd problem, and would be really grateful if someone could explain if the issue is hardware, or is it software?

Owned my TX2 TouchSmart for three or so years now, and neglecting the digitizer problems I had within warranty, it worked fine...until I recently installed Windows 8.1 Preview on it...shortly after which its monitor stopped working when windows boots.

However, the VGA output to the external monitor works fine, and also I can see the display works when it's booting up i.e. displaying lower resolutions (with I guess lower resolution / refresh rates). In windows itself the laptop monitor is completely blank as if its trying to display an incompatible refresh rate and/or resolution without being able to turn the display on (I've tried Win+P/Fn+F4 but it does nothing except to briefly flash the external monitor picture). Sometimes I do manage to get the laptop monitor to display the picture when booting up from sleep mode, but its not in the native resolution and the picture is distored outside the resolution bounding box if its lower than the native resolution of TX2's monitor (1280x800), or once that it did manage to boot running such a resolution on the laptop monitor the picture on it was lowered from the top leaving the top part dark...I could then use advanced ATI settings to change the resolution to 1280x1024@75Hz which raised the picture back to the top but obviously the lower portion of the screen and the windows bar wasn't visible...it's as if the TX2's monitor stopped supporting the 1280x800 monitor resolution and/or the driver/OS (used ATI's 13.6 Beta initially, afterwards tried all others, with the exact same non-results, Microsoft's own or ATI's doesn't matter) is trying to send it the picture with what is now a non-supported resolution or refresh rate (possibly due to some GPU BIOS corruption that's occured)?!

Is it a hardware issue, can it be fixed, if so how?! :( Much obliged, TIA

HP Pavilion DV6 cannot update GPU driver

Since a short time I'm owning a new laptop for my study. It's working fine at the moment, having one problem (a few hours ago it was two untill I found a solution for my audio problem). But now I encountered another one.

It seems that I cannot update my video card driver. I don't know the exact modelnumber, but I have a HP Pavilion DV6 with an Intel core i5 2410M, 4 gigs of RAM, 450GB of storage (15,5 GB recovery) with an Radeon HD 6770M and Beats Audio.

I went to AMD's site, support & drivers and did a auto detect and it said that "Your hardware is incompatible. The version of your graphical adapter is not supported. Please contact your manufacturer of your laptop to update your graphical adapter."

I searched the HP forums and it seems that other people have encountered this problem too. I have not been able to fix it yet.

I installed this: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video-e-g-Windows-8/How-to-update-hp-pavilion-dv6t-amd-radeon-6770m-graphics/td-p/1666387

From the forum. Now my GPU in Device Manager shows up as "6700M" and it still isn't working.

I tried disabling Intel HD Graphics Family. It just made my screen go huge and it didn't do anything.

I cannot play games as I should be able to. From what I understand is that this GPU is able to run pretty new games a decent FPS. Not maxed out of course, but it should get a nice framerate at about low and/or medium settings for at for example Crysis 2.

I also went to www.systemrequirementslab.com and I checked my hardware for Crysis 2, and it says that "Intel HD graphics family" is my GPU at the moment.

Help is appreciated!

My laptop screen is dark but as i look closer i can still see display like what i usually see when i boot up my laptop but a little bit darker or dimmer. I tried to remove the battery and press the power button for 30 seconds and plug the adapter and push power button but still nothing happens.

Could the problem be the GPU? because it seems that theres only a small air coming out
or could be the LCD?

This happened when i was playing for 4 straight hours -.-:smileysad:

HP ENVY m6-1158ca graphics driver problem.

I have been trying for weeks to find the proper drivers for my graphics devices, my amd radeon hd 7670M and my intel hd graphics 4000. I found the link to the page that lists what drivers i should have (HP ENVY m6-1100 Notebook PC series - Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center), and i downloaded the intel hd driver set with the filename of sp59676.exe and extracted it. When i go to set it up, the program says that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements, yet i got this on the page dedicated to my computer.

Any help would be appreciated towards directing me to correct drivers or fixing this issue with the driver above.

Black screen after HP logo - dv6t

Hello!

I have a HP Pavilion DV6t with WIN7 ultimate 64 and today it gave me a nice problem i can't solve. A few seconds after I hit the power botton, the screen turns almost black and won't come back. I can see something on the screen, but it is very hard to read, almost black. The laptop starts well, I can use it if I plug it via hdmi to my TV. I reinstalled the display driver, monitor drivers, run the bios flash, tried the safe mode (Same black screen), hardreste, but nothing works. If I put in the windows 7 DVD I find the same black screen. Have anyone met such issue before, I am really interested in the solution.

As the problem appears way before the win starts, I afraid a win reinstall won't work. I also believe it is not a hardware issue as sometimes the screen does come back for a second (eg when I unplug the hdmi).

Many thanks for any idea.
