For the past few months I've had issues with my display on my laptop. At times I would start the computer and it would either go to a black screen and take a very long time to load or I had to restart it to get it to go to the start screen.
I've also been hearing what I can best describe is a flickering sound which also makes the makes the screen flicker- there has been once or twice where the screen would not display properly and I had to restart the computer. The flickering sound sometimes sounds like...crackling electricity.
A few days ago I was using my computer outside and started to see a black spot growing in lower right hand screen- I realized that even though I was in the shade the sun had been shining on that spot on the computer. That area was very hot to touch both on the inside and outside of the screen. It remained there for the remainder of the day.
When I turned the computer on again a few days later after I had been out of town heard that flickering noise again and the black spot appeared again. This time not as big nor as hot. Didn't appear immediatly but after i had been using the computer for maybe 30 minutes.
The next day I used the computer as normal for about an hour and then noticed black spot came up and then the screen went very dim- barely could see anything on the screen at all and had to use a flashlight to be able to see anything on teh screen. Everything on the screen appeared normal.
I have turned the computer off for awhile and restarted it. When the computer is loading the HP logo and the windows logo come up as normal and bright. Then eventually the windows logo and screen dim and when i log into the computer the screen continues to remain dim.
I have checked the brightness setting. I have checked to see if any updates are available on HP.com, I have checked for windows and driver updates and they all appear to be updated. However, I did find out that the drivers available for my PC on HP are meant for windows 7, however, I am now running Windows 8 Enterprise.
I'm just not sure what else to try. My computer is over 5 years old and hasn't had any major issues- did have to replace the battery once a few years ago. Trying to figure out if it is something that can be fixed with relative ease or if I need to have a part replaced. If it is expensive to fix, then may consider that it's just time to get a new computer, but would like to see if I can fix this one first.
