Using AMD Radeon™ HD 6770 Graphics on my HP Pavilion dv6-6b55eg

EDIT: Problem solved. Read only if you have a similar issue and want to see what steps I went through.. Or if you have nothing better to do! :D

Hello everybody,

I've had this laptop for almost two years now. Just now I realize that it has something I believe is called a switchable graphics card. So apparently it should be able to switch between AMD Radeon™ HD 6770 and Intel HD 3000.

I went into Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings, and it shows the Intel HD 3000.

So far it has been using the Intel HD 3000 and I'd like to start using the Radeon HD 6770 instead.

Note: I used GPU-Z and it detects both.

First I went to HP and typed in my product number to download the needed drivers. It did not find any matches for my product number, which is: A6P30EA#ABD... When I googled it, I found out that this laptop is German I think. I had bought it at a vendor in Hungary. Nevertheless, I could not find drivers at HP.

So I went to AMD's website and downloaded their driver auto detection tool. http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool

After installing it, it detected the following:

"Graphics hardware: Radeon HD 6xxxxM Series"

"The best driver for this device is: 14-4-mobility-win7-win8-win8. 1-64-dd-ccc-whql.exe"

I downloaded that and installed it.

I thought I would need to restart before any changes would take place, but before doing so I went into Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings anyway, and it still showed the Intel HD 3000 as expected.

So I restarted and something unexpected happened. Instead of the Radeon HD working, or even the Intel HD working as before, instead no graphics cards are working now. When I go into Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings, it says nothing at all. Every field says <unavailable> or n/a.

I am quite uncertain as to what I should do now. I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thank you!

EDIT 1:

I went into the Device Manager, and under display adapters it showed:

Radeon (TM) HD 6770M functioning properly.

Intel (R) HD Graphics Family not functioning properly.

So I uninstalled the Radeon one. Windows then automatically re-installed it without me doing anything. (The installing drivers bubble popped up in the bottom right corner.) I then restarted and I was back where I started: the Intel HD is working (Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings shows Intel HD), and the Radeon HD is still detected but apparently not doing anything.

Also: meanwhile I found this http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=5205521&lc=en&cc=de&dlc=en&lang=en&task= which I believe is my laptop. I had to search for it manually through this list http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/prodTopCategory?product=18703&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&query=Pavilion%20DV6&tool= as the search on the main page could not find it.

What drivers should I uninstall/install now?

EDIT 2:

While looking at other posts on this forum with similar problems, I found this link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03048374

Unlike in the screenshots at that link, when I open my Catalyst Control Center, I first get a message saying:

"HydraVision

AMD's desktop manager is being unloaded because an AMD display driver is not currently running.

If you have administrator privileges, click "Reset" to revert to default display settings. Select "Cancel" to close this window with no changes.

To permanently remove an installed AMD display driver, use the Add/ Remove Programs control panel."

Whether I press "Cancel" or "Reset", nothing seems to happen. If I then run CCC again, then it opens normally but with only three tabs on the left side: "Pinned", "Preset" and "HydraVision". Then after some time I get an error message saying "Catalyst Control Center: Host application has stopped working", and asking whether I want to debug it or just "Close program".

I also have a program called Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel, which runs automatically with Windows. However, it does not seem to have any options related to switching graphics cards or anything of the sort.

EDIT 3:

I uninstalled the Radeon driver in the Device Manager. The screen then changed resolution just like when before EDIT 1.

I also uninstalled Catalyst Control Center.

I then installed this: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-105178-1&cc=de&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=5205521&sw_lang=

As soon as it was installed, the screen changed resolution back and Screen Resolution > Advanced Settings says the Intel HD is working.

Now, however, I have no Catalyst Control Center at all... I will try to install it somehow.

EDIT 4:

I re-installed the driver at EDIT 3 and this time it installed CCC with it.

I don't need any help any more, thank you.

latest drivers for web camera on an upgraded Notebook PC

my laptop:

Compaq Presario C795 VU Notebook PC

operating system:

                                           Windows 7 Ultimate

                                           64-bit Operating System

my laptop had windows vista originally. i got it upgraded to windows 7 ultimate.for sometime it worked fine but web camera was giving some problems . sometimes i would use skype and it would get on and would not get off unless i make a shut down , restart or flap downing .it appears that perhaps it is hanged. sometimes i would go to skype and try to take the picture but the photo would not come in the square .it would not show any photo as if it is searching for it and after sometime the message will come:

"your camera is perhaps being used by some other program  "

or sometimes that

"you are not able to take a photo .may be that you have not installed the                                                                                              latest drivers for it"

so once i went into the device manager > imaging devices>properties>driver and went for update driver (very recently)

what happened is that the camera name disapperared from the imaging device . and was not showing any photo and then the name of the camera in imaging devices suddenly changed from 'hp web camera ....' to 'usb video device'.

for some 20 days it looked to work well but now again same problems are coming back slowly .also i noticed in action centres >problems  to report that

"a generic driver is installed . so may be that some features are missing "

besides ,when i try to make a video call by skype it runs well but not with g mail video calling.on g mail video sometimes it would be showing my video on my laptop and to the other side but sometimes only of the other side. let me come to know what i should do.

thanks in advance

I bought laptop the other day, a HP and came with simple instructions to set it up.  However, I am trying  to touch the screen and nothing happens.  I do have a box at the bottom of the key that has two gray buttons underneath.  It is very hard to use it.   I am using my old mouse to navigate, which, the salesman didnt say that I needed a mouse to navigate.  Does anyone know that I cannot do the touch screen.

Can't start game on my HP Envy 15j

I recently purchased the game "World in Conflict" after just recieving my newly built laptop.   I downloaded game  successfully with no problems.  However, when I try to start the game it gives me an error message saying "Error: No appropriate 3d graphics card detected."

I went to the website http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/CYRI/Requirements/world-in-conflict/10630?p=a and tried "can you run it" and I recieved this message-

"We could not determine your exact system so we can't tell if your computer can run this product. Please review the details below for further information regarding your system"

The "details below" refers to the system requirements to play the game which I have exceeded with my system.  I have the NVIDIA GeForce 740m, Intel HD Graphics 4600, an intel i7 processor, and 8 GB of RAM.  This should be more than sufficient in running this game.

How can I fix this problem?

Thanks

Graphics Driver issue: Pavilion dv7-6175us

On my laptop, I have attempted to install the new available drivers from HP.com. The Radeon chipset drivers have installed fine, yet the Intel chipset drivers do not. The system error indicates that this system does not meet the minimum requirements for the software. I run my system in High Performance Graphics mode, and some programs are encountering issues being dependent on these new drivers. If you have different updated drivers than the ones suggested by your product link, I will use those. Please help?

Graphics card dedicated memory

I've run into this issue multiple times.  When I purchased my laptop I also got an updated graphics card bundled with it.  For most games the computer runs,  just barely sometimes, but it runs.

However, for about 3 of the games I've purchased the graphics card doesn't have enough allocated memory.  I've attempted to go into BIOS and change the amount of memory it is allowed, but I'm not even given the option to change it.

The Graphic's card memory is the only thing that is keeping me from playing all my games smoothly and it is really annoying, exspecially because I purchased the updated graphics card so I wouldn't have this problem.

I have an HP pavilion dm4 with an intel core i5 processor and and an HD Intel Family graphics card.  I've contacted intel and they say this is a problem that HP can fix with the motherboard.

Any suggestions?  I would really love to not have to buy a whole new computer because one this is missing from my computer.

"Display ATI Radeon Family driver stopped responding and has recovered"

For the past few days my laptop Model HP G61-409CA has been displaying broken black and white horizontal lines and black, white, and coloured random squares on my screen. When it freezes the screen and mouse stops moving and the screen goes blank for about 5 seconds then comes back with the error (Display ATI Radeon Family driver stopped responding and has recovered) appears with a yellow triangle. Unfortunetly when i click on the triangle nothing opens up.

Ive tried to download Catalyst Control Centre because when I researched many people spoke about not being able to find their control centre and that it had something to do with the displaying error on the screen. I cant seem to find the folder or the program on my computer, but when i tried to install something similar from http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/mobile?os=Windows%207%20-%2064#amd-catalyst-packages less than half way through the computer displayed a Blue screen and had to shut down. Also when i recovered my laptop the problem did not go away.

My product number : WA964UA#ABC
OS: Windows 7 for x64 based systems

Please let me know what needs to be done ive tried updating all my drivers aswell!
