Good day everyone,
I recently acquired an old dv2500 laptop from a friend only to find that there was no display when it was powered on. All the lights come on--power and the line of blue lights along the top, the power LED on the bottom left, and the Wireless LED, but there is nothing on the screen. I read that a common problem with these motherboards was the video card solder developing cracks and causing intermittent or no display. I replaced the motherboard twice, and both times I still had no luck. I made sure I used the correct replacement board--462535-001--but had no luck. The first board I tried was a perfect match, it was a dv2500 mobo and had the same part number. The second board, I found later, was supposedly just for a dv2000, but had the same exact part number. My first question is, would a board with the same part number (462535-001) work even if it's advertised as being a dv2000 board? My second question is, what else could be wrong? I've tried the VGA output with an external monitor and still had no luck, which led me to believe it was, in fact, the video card. However, after replacing the board twice, I began to have my doubts. They were both supposedly tested and determined operational, so I am beginning to think it is something else.
I am not new to replacing hardware, so I don't expect I've wired anything incorrectly. I've posted around on a wide variety of forums, but when I didn't get a helpful answer I figured I'd take it straight to the top and post on the HP forums.
You guys are my last hope, and if I can't get it fixed I'm going to have to give up on this thing.
Thanks very much! If you need any more information, please let me know and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Best wishes,
Matt
