Windows 7
I recently updated my drivers using the AMD program that automatically performs this task. I believe this is the first time I updated the drivers since I purchased the laptop in 2011. Let's call this "state 1". The update added some new functionality, but I somehow lost the ability to configure my switchable graphics. When I right-clicked the screen and selected the option, instead of the window that displays recently run programs I would receive a window that just showed some generic AMD stuff with absolutely no option to switch graphics. Let's call this "state 2".
In my attempt to remedy the situation, I dug myself into a deeper hole. I went to Device Manager and selected "Roll Back Drivers". Now I don't have access to AMD Catalyst Control Center at all. When I try to access it I get an error message that says:
"AMD's desktop manager is being unloaded because an AMD display driver is not currently running... etc."
We can call this "state 3". It says this is driver version 8.861.1.0. I want to return to state 1 or even state 2, but I don't want to tinker any further with drivers without a little oversight because I don't want to make this issue any worse. Can I just update to the most recent drivers right away or do I need to uninstall old drivers or something? Do I have remenents of conflicting drivers on top of each other or what? Thanks for your help.
EDIT: It also appears that neither YouTube videos or MPEG-4 videos are working either.
EDIT 2: I used system restore to bring me back to a point several days ago (state 2) so I regained video capabilities, but this still leaves the problem of "Configure Switchable Graphics" being non-operational. Sorry for this mess of a text.
