DV6 Laptop screen black when starting up

Hi All,

I have a HP laptop : HP Pavilion Dv6t-3100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC 64bit
Product Number : WW144AV
AMD Driver : AMD Mobitlity Radeon 5000 series with Intel Driver

So the problem is, when I start my laptop the screen remains black but I can hear the fan moving and all.
I tried connecting to an external monitor & cleaned the ram as well, but it didn't work.

I had this problem around 3 months back and then I gave it to this computer technician to repair it. He said it's an issue with the motherboard and he charged $100 to repair it, and then it worked fine. But recently again I got this problem. So I checked the issue on the internet and found this solution.
1.Remove the battery and the power cord.
2.Hold the power button for 60sec
3.Plug the power cord in, switch on the laptop and then put the battery again.

I tried this around 3 times and it worked. But then again I got this problem after around a week and now even that doesn't work.

I'll list out all the issues I had with the laptop below.
1.Laptop was overheating cuz apparently the fan wasn't working. So replaced the fan and it worked fine.
2.I started getting an error, "inner battery not working' when I switch on the laptop after the battery drained. But the laptop worked fine.

3.I upgraded to windows 8 and couldn't find a suitable AMD graphics driver. I tried installing the AMD driver given by HP for windows 7 but it wasn't working, as in it just took like 20sec and it said the installation completed but it wasn't properly installed. So I changed the compatibility of the setup file to windows 7 and then it installed fine. But then I got these weird colored boxes all over the screen and then the laptop wouldn't start. That's when I first got the issue I mentioned in the beginning, I can hear the fan moving but the screen remained black.

So now even draining the residual power isn't working, I really appreciate if someone can give me a solution because i don't wanna spend another $100 to 'repair the motherboard' as it's a pretty big sum in Sri Lanka. And I suspect the comp. tech might be ripping me off.
Thanks a bunch for anyone who can advice me on this. :D

Envy 15J - poor quality LCD screen

I bought an Envy 15-j104el hoping it would have a good LCD screen.

Unfortunately, the laptop I have received has AUO32ED model screen, the worst I could receive, as someone else has reported here http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-envy-hdx/717180-now-available-envy-15-jxxx-envy-17-jxxx-notebooks...

"on the AUO32ED the silvers have a blueish tint, and the color overall seems bleached out (its not as bad as the picture makes it look, but bad enough). What you cant see from the pics is the vertical viewing angle on the AUO32ED. Leaning back in your chair 6 inches was enough to make the display unviewable. The new CMN15BB display isn't the greatest, but it is loads better than the AUO32ED. The viewing angle is my only real gripe, but its nowhere near as bad as the AUO was."

Can I ask to have the LCD changed ?

Who I have to call or write to ?

Why HP has decided to use a so poor LCD on a so good and powerful machine (in terms of hardware) ?

TIA

I use my HP Pavilion G7 with two external displays, one using the built-in VGA port, and the other using a third-party USB-to-VGA adapter. Everything was working fine on Windows 8, however after upgrading to Windows 8.1 neither of my two esternal displays work any longer. I tried downloading and installing the latest display drivers from HP, to no avail. I have searched the forums and have not found anyone with this exact problem.

Here is the information on my notebook:

I bought this notebook to use it for PowerPoint lectures around the world as it is light to carry on airlines. I was assured it would play my video and indeed t does if I use the windows photo utility. However it performs very badly with video in VLC media player. Also any reasonable quality video is very jerky when played in PowerPoint 2013.  Can you suggest

a) the best video format to use to overcome these problems

b) whether it is possible to upgrade the processor or graphics card  in this machine t0 improve video performance.

Screen Flicker

Hello,

I have an HP G6-1200TX Notebook.

Worked well for 15 months and then the screen started to flicker. Initially it flickered for a few minutes and then was okay on its own. Then after a month, it started flickering again for a few minutes, then was okay again. but in couple of days after, the flickering started and never stopped.

Out of warranty!

Do I have to give it in for repairs? Is buying an extended warranty a better option?

Thanks in advance

Hi

I have a webpage that displays fine in every browser that i tried including IE8. It also does well in a Compaq Mini running XP (IE8).

However, in my daughter's HP Mini a asection of social media buttons that are at the bottom of the sidebar appear instead on top over an advert.

I wonder if someone with a similar sized screem could look at the page and tell me if the problem is general or maybe something specific in this laptop.

The page's url is pintotours.net

Hi,

So one evening i was doing my work on my desk the same as every other day and shut my computer down as normal.  I came back to my laptop the next day - which was still untouched in the same position. I open my lid, and find a crack all the way down my screen starting from the middle of the top, close to where the camera is situated, all the way down towards to bottom right corner of the screen.

I was absolutely astonished to find this as you can imagine, also after reading the forum i understand that others have experienced very similar problems with this topic and model of laptop.

I purchased my laptop from John Lewis as they promote and offer what falsly appeared to be a a great warranty.  I understand that this may be possibly out of their hands and lies with HP even though i have only had my laptop for a matter of 3 months.  However after waiting for it be sent off for a diagnosis i was told that the engineers at HP would be able to identify if there was an impact which caused the cracked screen (this is after i had assured that it had not be dropped or used forcfully of any kind, this is also in addition to it being in immaculate conditions anyway) causing severe inconvieneince as i am currently in the middle of exams and obviously being left without a laptop which i paid £800 for is just not acceptable.

A few days later i recieved a call stating no information of what impact was caused but whether i wanted to proceed with paying £437 for my screen to be fixed or if id like it to be returned to me broken.  When i asked John Lewis why it was classed as 'accidental damage' on my behalf, and also asked about where they found the impact had been made to the laptop, they were unable to answer my questions and they have now referred back to the engineers at HP for more information and an explanation as i was simply expected to just accept the fee for repairing a laptop which i had NOT damaged.

I think that all this comotion is completely inappropriate behaviour on the behalf of HP as they are clearly unable to stand behind their products, i have also found other posts on forums indicating similar problems, therefore it should be approached as a design fault or a manufacturing fault on the behalf of HP.  You cannot claim legally that someone has caused 'accidental damage' without proof to back up your statement.

I am not going to accept the £400 fee to fix my laptop when this is half of the overall price.

HP are letting me down with the trust i had built up with them as they are suppose to be such a reputable company hence why i chose their model of laptop to invest my money into.

I am completely and utterly dissapointed with the lack of support that i have recieved from HP in regards to a situation which is simply can not just be put down to accidental damage just because HP are unwilling to fork out the costs of products that they know are at fault.

Switchable Graphics in Windows 8.1 for an HP pavillion dv7 6143cl

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit with an AMD Radeon HD 6770 series dedicated graphics card in addition to my integrated Intel one. My computer has no hardware modifications, it is simply a hp pavillion dv7 6143cl with an i7 2630QM. Ever since I upgraded to Windows 8 after I had to reformat my hard drive the switchable graphics have not worked properly and I am asking here in the hopes that there is a fix for it now. I am aware that my computer was not supported with Windows 8, and that there might not be an official fix. I asked a while back and was informed that the video drivers at the link below would work, they did, but not superbly as I still frequently get a blue screen while switching and my performance is taking a hit.

(The driver for a HP Pavilion dv7-6b54er )

A friend with the same model of laptop (entirely identical hardware and model number) sent me a hot fix of the drivers he uses (in windows 7), but these weren't noticeably different.

If anyone has any idea how I can fix my switchable graphics (without changing my OS), I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thank you.

I have an HP Pavilion DV6500 and for a while now the screen lighting has been out. I've had to use a lamp behind my laptop to be able to see what I was doing on the screen. That is, up until a few days ago when the screen suddenly went completely black. The laptop still powers up and everything though. I currently have it connected to an external monitor however, the display will not show up. As I said the screen us completely black so I can't see what I'm doing but I've done a lot of research and tried every didn't keystroke and whatever else I could find. Nothing seems to work so I have turned to this forum for help.
Pretty sure I'm going to need to just replace the whole thing but is there anything I can do to make this work?

Screen Saver in Windows Media Center

$

I hope I am in the right place!  Windows Media Center, where I play dvds, seems to have its own screen saver, namely a slide show derived from my pictures file.  I want to change this, but cannot find the path.  The reason I want to change it is because the slide show contains weird looking "pictures" that are not among my own or HPs photo galleries.  I get a few of my own photos, but largely I get blank screens and, as I mentioned already, some strange symbols and figures that I do not recognize.  This is a small matter I know, but it bugs big to be unable to fix the dang thing.  Grateful thanks to anyone who can tell me what to do!!!

Hi everyone,

I recently got my hard disk replaced and installed a fresh OS since my windows 7 is a OEM version. I ran into a trouble when I tried to install the HD display driver and it gave me this error saying my computer doesn't meet the requirement. I'm successfully installed the amd catalyst manager.

Thanks for the help!
