I have a HP laptop : HP Pavilion Dv6t-3100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC 64bit
Product Number : WW144AV
AMD Driver : AMD Mobitlity Radeon 5000 series with Intel Driver
So the problem is, when I start my laptop the screen remains black but I can hear the fan moving and all.
I tried connecting to an external monitor & cleaned the ram as well, but it didn't work.
I had this problem around 3 months back and then I gave it to this computer technician to repair it. He said it's an issue with the motherboard and he charged $100 to repair it, and then it worked fine. But recently again I got this problem. So I checked the issue on the internet and found this solution.
1.Remove the battery and the power cord.
2.Hold the power button for 60sec
3.Plug the power cord in, switch on the laptop and then put the battery again.
I tried this around 3 times and it worked. But then again I got this problem after around a week and now even that doesn't work.
I'll list out all the issues I had with the laptop below.
1.Laptop was overheating cuz apparently the fan wasn't working. So replaced the fan and it worked fine.
2.I started getting an error, "inner battery not working' when I switch on the laptop after the battery drained. But the laptop worked fine.
3.I upgraded to windows 8 and couldn't find a suitable AMD graphics driver. I tried installing the AMD driver given by HP for windows 7 but it wasn't working, as in it just took like 20sec and it said the installation completed but it wasn't properly installed. So I changed the compatibility of the setup file to windows 7 and then it installed fine. But then I got these weird colored boxes all over the screen and then the laptop wouldn't start. That's when I first got the issue I mentioned in the beginning, I can hear the fan moving but the screen remained black.
So now even draining the residual power isn't working, I really appreciate if someone can give me a solution because i don't wanna spend another $100 to 'repair the motherboard' as it's a pretty big sum in Sri Lanka. And I suspect the comp. tech might be ripping me off.
Thanks a bunch for anyone who can advice me on this. :D
