Create 'hybrid' drivers for HP Envy X360

Hi,

I have after many hours of different attempts found the optimum combination of drivers to make my Envy X360 stable, performant and solve the poor quality display of the Chi Mei (yellowish panel) screen.

This is not exactly easy, but I will describe what I did, and let you try for yourselves.

Step 1:

You need to stop Windows from default loading the Windows Library driver - this is really important.

Get wushowhide.diagcab from Microsoft.

Uninstall all the AMD drivers - find Bin64 in your driver install directory (will be on C drive) - use the AMDCleanupUtility.exe file.

Wait until you get confirmation that the files are gone. Reboot.

Now you need to immediately run the wushowhide.diagcab

If you do this quickly you will see that the AMD Driver is listed. Check this to HIDE this from future updates - will hide just this version.

Step 2:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1yYi2IdQAy5YxYd5VXqLUbNw0Q5ZcJl6B

Download and load this driver (17.40) - reboot

Step 3:

Go here and download this driver:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/nl/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/700-series/720s-13arr/81br/downloads/ds502046

DO NOT RUN THIS, just let it install the files, then when the AMD window starts quit out of it.

Step 4:

Download from AMD - Win10 64 Bit Radeon Crimson Relive version 17.10.3 Oct27 - must be the full install file.

Step 5:

Manually re-install the AMD drivers from the about 17.10.3 file. Go to:

Packages \ Apps \

Starting with the Vulkan driver directory, start to manually install the 64 bit only files. For the Vulcan file go into the second directory VulcanRT and install from the .exe file. For the rest install from the .msi files. If asked to Modify / Repair / Uninstall ALWAYS select Repair option.

Ignore all directories starting with VC; in CCCSlim only select the A464 directory.

Install everything, do a reboot when asked, and make sure you worked all the way up to the ACP64 directory at the top. One directory will not install (can't remember which!).

Do one final reboot.

Step 6:

Manually load the Lenovo driver.

Go to the Control Panel, choose Device Manager. Select Display Adapter - should state that it is Microsoft Basic Driver and your screen should be really dim. If not do not worry, we can still do this but would indicate you did not clean out the system properly.

Right click the driver, select Update Driver. Choose Browse my computer for Driver Software

Choose: Let me pick from a list available...

Select: Have Disk

Now browse to where the Lenovo Drivers were installed. Should be: C:\Drivers\VGA Drivers

Select: Packages\Apps\OEM App Profiles\    run .msi file [this is important!]

Select:  Packages\Drivers\Display\WT6A_INF\

Select: the .inf file

Click OK

Should get to see a list of AMD Drivers - look for AMD Radeon Vega 8

Select this. Will show loading dialogue...

The screen should soon go bright and white.

Reboot...

If everything went OK you will have all of this software loaded in the AMD Settings Panel:

Radeon Settings Version - 2017.1127.307.5580
Driver Packaging Version - 17.30.1025.1017-171127a-321375C-Lenovo
Provider - Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
2D Driver Version - 8.1.1.1614
Direct3D® Version - 9.14.10.01295
OpenGL® Version - 6.14.10.13490
OpenCL™ Version - 22.19.655.5120
AMD Mantle Version - 9.1.10.0218
AMD Mantle API Version - Not Available
AMD Audio Driver Version - 10.0.1.5
Vulkan™ Driver Version - 1.6.0
Vulkan™ API Version - 1.0.51

This seems to be the best performing and most stable driver mix. I have tried using the AMD RX Vega desktop drivers with Adrenalin (works) but it runs slower on several benchmarks - and surprisingly damages disk IO performance. It also disables the Gamma controls in Windows, but it does give you a colour control panel. However the calibration using the Lenovo driver seems better on my Chi Mei screen.

I ran a 4K UHD video on Chrome using Youtube with Superresolution and GPU scaling OFF and it was rock steady, no glitches. Not had time to experiment further as I don't use Chrome much. Colour calibration is very nice and blues are bold even at 6500K.

Screen is brightest I have seen it, and just perfect colour mix. Lenovo did a great job it seems.

Now I am giving up on this game of fiddling. Got the best combo I can find, and now back to just using the bloody laptop rather than trying to fix it...

Good luck if you want to try this difficult way to get the thing to work, but this really does seem to be a winner.

The light on my mute button has stopped working, but the button itself still works. When I push some keys, they either do another function or type two letters.

E.g. typing m actually types nm, pushing c takes me to microsoft help, pushing b types vb etc.

I have a HP Elitebook 8560p notebook computer, the problem is: suddenly black screen when I was using, press the power button after the notebook restarts, the notebook screen keep in black, nothing display. If I use a external screen from VGA interface can be worked, but could NOT install the AMD graphics card driver(SP64287), otherwise it will be blue screen after installation restart, I can only use Windows driver, not AMD discrete graphics.

When I was using external screen to reboot computer to DIY eGPU system, it will be like

Is it a hardware problem or software problem? How could solve it? Thanks a lot!

HP 250 G5 Notebook (W4Q06EA#ABU) i5-6200U CPU @ 2,30Ghz 2.40 Ghz 8GB

Hi,

I have the above laptop which worked fine for months.

When it recived the W10 1709 update, the start menu stopped working properly (Did not appear, full screen goes blank bar cursor which remains)

I've manually force the install of the HP specified Display driver for SkyLake's on 1709 however this does not solve the issue.

Issue is most certainy with HD driver as reverting to the generic driver solves the issues ,as does factory resetting he device to pre W10 1709.

I'm at the end of the road with my attempts to solve this one so would be greatful of any advives.

Best Wishes

Touchscreen not working [br018na]

Hello everyone.

Recently bought an HP Pavilion x360 15-br018na laptop and found out that the touchscreen isn't working.

Have tried a lot of solutions among the forums but unsuccessfully.

In the device manager there is no touchscreen driver (in hidden devices as well). I2C HID Device driver shows Code 10 error.

PC properties shows: No Pen or TOuch Input is available for this display.

Nothing about touchscreen in BIOS (F10).

No touchscreen under Component tests (F2).

Touchscreen doesn't work in BIOS either.

Looks like hardware problem. Any suggestions?

Problems with my screen (I think)

Hello,

A little over a month  ago, I bought a 15" HP Envy x360 convertible laptop from a local tech store, and it started malfunctioning from day 1. The problems that I experienced were as follows:

- While watching youtube videos, the entire screen goes green for 2 seconds, then black, then the page loads and everything goes back to being normal.

- While watching videos, the portion of the screen where the video is playing turns green/purplish/distorted/pixelated for about 5-10 seconds.

- Sometimes the screen would just not respond to stylus and/or finger. ( When I restart the laptop this problem is resolved)

- The screen goes completely white and the laptop makes a very loud noise. (This problem is fixed by turning the laptop off from the power button and then turning it back on again, but this shouldn't be happening in the first place)

- Sometimes when I flip the screen to turn the laptop into a tablet, it doesn't automatically turn into tablet mode, even though I made sure that settings were on: 'Don't ask me and always switch'.

At first, I called the store's support service and I was told to reset the laptop and see if that fixes anything, and if it doesn't I should just take the laptop back to the store and get it exchanged. I tried resetting it, but the problems persisted, so I took it to the store and explained the problems I was encountering, and since none of the staff knew how to fix the problems, I assumed my laptop was faulty and asked for another one, which they agreed to give me.

After working really well for the first week, my current laptop (which is exactly the same as the original one I bought) is experiencing the same problems. I've only had this laptop for a month so I don't understand why it's already malfunctioning, and I'm worried that it's only going to get worse as time goes on.

Also, my current processor is AMD Ryzen 5 2500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx. I have a relative who bought the exact same laptop but with i7 processor, and she hasn't had any issues with her laptop. So could the processor have anything to do with these issues? or is my laptop just faulty?

Trouble with my touchpad

I can't seem to disable or uninstall the drivers and software for my touchpad. I don't use it and whenever my sleeve brushes it it changes the location of the cursor. At one time I was able to shut it off with the synaptics software, but now it doesn't give me that option. I can't disable it in the drivers, because it doesn't give me that option. When I uninstalled the driver it still didn't inactivate the touchpad and when Windows updated it reinstalled it anyways. Is there anything I can do short of opening the laptop up and cutting the connection?

HP laptop loses projection

Two different HP laptops, one running Windows 7, the other Windows 10.  Tried VGA, tried HDMI.  Connecting to church projector which is Epson EX5210.  Connects as second monitor (duplicate) but randomly and without explanation drops the second monitor.  Has to be reset to see the second monitor every time, regardless of default settings, etc.  We know this is not a cabling or projector issue because it works just fine with Toshiba or Dell laptops.  Please tell me how to get HP laptops to retain the projector as second monitor.

Oh, and yes, I updated all drivers on both machines, checked display settings....  Seriously, it's only the two HPs that are doing this, and no matter what we try, we can't overcome it.

Display Resizing After Sleep

Whenever I open my laptop after it has been sleeping, the display is reduced to have about 2 inches of black space on both sides. If I restart it, and the display goes back to normal. I never changed any settings, and it is really inconventient to continually restart my computer to get the correct display size of 1920x1080. This seemed to happen after updating my laptop March 20 2018-ish, and I would really appreciate any help.
