External monitor via USB-C through j5create to HDMI not working

$

I just purchased an HP Envy 13-ad1xx (from Costco): https://m.costco.com/.product.100381392.html

I'm trying to connect an external monitor.  Nothing I've tried will detect the screen.

I purchased a j5create USB Type-C Multi-Adapter (JCA374) which supports 4k HDMI (DisplayPort Alt Mode Compatible... according to the box)

I connected that to my USB-C port.  Then connected my monitor to the box using an HDMI cable.

The monitor is an HP Pavilion 27xw.  This is a 1920x1080 monitor and I've switched my laptop to 1920x1080.

When I turn on the monitor it scans the HDMI port for some time and says "no signal" and then turns off.

On the other end, pressing the monitor detect button on the laptop says it can't find any additional monitors.

All other ports on the j5create adapter are working--USBx2 and Ethernet.

The monitor works through HDMI with my other 2 laptops.

The HDMI cable works at 4k between my 4kUHD blu-ray player and my 4kUHD TV in the living room.

I even tried connecting the j5create adapter to external power (which is possible but not required)

Nothing I've tried has made any difference.

Please tell me what I need to replace to get this to work:

-Do I need a different USB-C to HDMI converter or is the j5create compatible with the Envy?

-Do I need to buy a different monitor?  If so, what monitor have you used with this laptop that you know works?

If I need to replace the monitor, I'd like a 27" IPS 4K flat (not curved) display... suggestions?

I really don't want to return this laptop. But, if I can't get it working with an external monitor it is pretty much useless to me.

External portable DVD writer - DVD films not playing on HP Envy - HP not starting them

I bought an LG portable DVD writer for my HP Envy.

You kindly helped me get past problem getting data downloaded from the portable. (there was a windows firewall issue which was preventing me doing so).

Now, I was hoping to watch a DVD film but it won't play.  I can hear the drive whirring, the VOB and BUP files are showing in a folder in the E drive but nothing is coming through or autoplaying.

I have turned off Windows Firewall with no effect.

No error messages showing.  Just nada.

Can you help? Its not a DVD writer issue as same thing happens on my other computer.

In case it helps, the software that came with the DVD was media suite 10.

Many thanks in advance.

Michelle

Screen turns off after 1-2 min of inactivity

The laptop is plugged in.

Under power options in Control panel there are the default settings: turn off the display after 5min when on battery, and after 10min when plugged in.

I don't use screen saver (even though I've tried to test it setting a 10min wait in that dialog box).

What else should I do to make the screen stay on for as long as I want it to?

Connect Z15 G3 to 2 Monitors Using Thunderbolt (USB-C)

My company has provided me with a Zbook 15 (Generation 3) with Intel HD 530 graphics. I'm attempting to attach it to two existing monitors. HP's technical whitepaper "Multiple displays on HP ZBook Mobile Workstations" states that I should be able to display to both the laptop's display, as well as two external monitors using Thunderbolt. To do this, I first confirmed that I do, in fact, have Thunderbolt; both ports do have the Thunderbolt symbol next to them. I then purchased two USB-C to HDMI cables.

My computer does not detect the displays. I upgraded my graphics driver to the latest version, still no luck. I also installed the latest USB-C driver. What can I try next?

Display Port does not work with HDMI to Display Port Adapter

We have a few large TV monitors that we used for presentations in our conference rooms. These TV monitors has HDMI cables for connections. Our laptops would connect using a HDMI to Display Port adapter. The only laptop we are having problems connecting to these TV monitors is the HP ZBook 17 G2. The Display Port on this laptop works fine if we connect to a Display Port monitor using a Display Port to Display Port cable but once we plug a known good HDMI to Display Port adapter, the display port seems to be lacking power or something. We get a black screen. The TV monitor does detect some type of connection because once we remove the adapter from the laptop, the TV Monitor would show, "no imput device found." We have confirmed the HDMI cables on the TV monitors are good and we even tried different known good HDMI to Display Port adapters. We also confirmed that we are using the correct imput on the TV Monitor. All the drivers on this laptop is up to date and it is running the latest BIOS update. We tried lowering the resolution on the laptop but we still get no display. We also tried to toggle the screen between the laptop display and the TV monitor but nothing happens. When we plug the adapter into the laptop, Windows would not detect the connection for the additional monitor. We also checked the BIOS to confirm we enabled this display port to be active. In conclusion, we believe there is a lack of power on the display port for this laptop. What are your thoughts?

cracked screen on spectre x360

I had a problem  with the screen cracking but no glass has fallen out yet.  I was using my HP Spectre on Sunday night and it was working properly when I shut it down.   I opened it up the next morning and find the screen cracked.  I had a telephone call with hp call center and they said that this is not covered by the guaranty and I have to pay $300 for a screen repair.    Why should I be charged for this defective screen that appears to have been a problem for others based on what I am seeing on this forum.

This is my first time using HP and I am really disapoint, maybe I have to back to Mc.

Hi

We just bought HP elitebook latest with intel video card. It comes with windows 10. I am using DVI convertor with HDMI cable. I have three different TV's any TV I connect I get Resolution Not supported error

All tvs are news as well all support 1080p resolution.

Any suggestions, changing resolution, change refresh rates. I don't have to do any of that on my other laptops.

Any suggestions on how to address this will be appreciated

Not sure if cpu and gpu temp is ok, and secondly why do I need two graphics cards?

The CPU temp gets at between 75 and 85 degrees regularly? Is this normal? Will disabling the integrated graphics cards help with this? I tried disabling the intel hd once in device menager for another reason, but it seems like it couldn't be disabled that way because nvidia physx in the nvidia control panel remained on the intel hd display, not on gtx 1050 ti? What should I do here in general, it's a brand new laptop, not sure yet what is safe to do and what isn't.

Cannot connect hp envy x360 to TV with HDMI

I cannot use my TV (Panasonic Plasma TV) with my laptop through HDMI.

When I plug it in I can see the connection works because I can see "PanasonicTV0" under Select a screen in the Intel HD control panel.

However, the screen says no signal.

Also in Intel HD, if I click the Detect button in the multiple screens section, a popup message says there is no screen detected.

Windows does not see any other display either under the display settings page.

I have another Dell PC running Windows 10 that can connect without issues.

On the HP Envy x360, everything is up to date with the HP Support Assistant.

Please help!

2 Up to 2560 x 1600 resolution available on a single display when connected.

The documentation for this device states:

"...or use the included adapter to connect to a DVI display.1,2,3"

...where note 2 reads:

2  Up to 2560 x 1600 resolution available on a single display when connected.

I am trying to get this to work with my Dell ultrasharp 3008wfp 30-inch displayport 2560x1600 capable monitor and toshiba Kiri Ultrabook with 2560x1440 onboard display but no displayport or DVI. The highest resolution i can get is 2048x 1152.

The HP 3001pr USB3 Port Replicator was tested and works @2560x1600 with the Toshiba Ultrabook via HP 3001pr displayport configuration if the monitor (not mine) is 4K. Unfortunatley I did not test the DVI-D configuration with the 4K monitor, but it should not matter.

Instead, the Dell ultrasharp 3008wfp monitor was tested and works via direct cable connection @2560x1600 to a Nvidia graphics card DVI port on a server running Windows Server 2012. (No hp3001pr in this test).

When I run the desired (but not working) configuration I notice that the display adapter driver reports total available graphics memory of the "DisplayLink USB Device" as 1792Mb. This doesnt seem enough.

Assuming the HDMI to DVI-D adapter supplied with the HP 3001pr is not at fault, my next point of investigation is the Windows 10 64-bit operating system and HP 3001pr driver.

As I dont have the resources to do this, can yo please provide assistance ?

Screen tearing after BIOS issues

$

Hey, I recently sent my HP Omen 17-w204no in for repair due to some BIOS issues. With the motherboard replaced, it worked fine for about 24 hours, then suddenly while I'm playing Hearts of Iron IV, the screen goes completely orange and the PC is unresponsive. After a while, I turn off the PC, and it's unable to boot correctly again, simply giving me a black screen and flashing the caps lock LED. I google a bit, find out that indicates a BIOS issue, and attempt to restore the BIOS with a USB flash drive.

The BIOS restore seems to complete correctly, but when I boot my PC after that, the display goes crazy with screen tearing. At one point, when I booted the PC, it displayed five miniature versions of the login screen side by side at the top of the screen, and the Omen logo as one image covering the bottom two thirds.

It was, however, able to boot after me doing this, so I figured maybe something was wrong with the USB, and I downloaded the BIOS driver from the HP website and did the update over again. It did result in a less crazy display, but it's still covered in vertical lines to the point of being unreadable.

Is there anything I can do to avoid having to send it in for repair again?

EDIT:

I found this message in the device manager when looking at my graphics card:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
