Hi,
When trying to use the HP Elite X3 Lap Dock in wired mode, using the original USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable from the box, connected to various Windows 10 laptops, the Lap Dock ends up rebooting after a few seconds. This is totally 100% reproducible.
One specific combination I've tried is to plug the Lap Dock to an HP Elite X2 1012 G1, which has a USB Type-C port supporting DisplayPort video out.
It was not working when running Windows 10 Creators Update, I've updated recently to the Fall Creators Update and I get exactly the same result.
Here is the actual behavior:
- plugging the Lap Dock, it starts to get detected
- Windows is trying to set it up, to install the different drivers for the display, the touchpad, the keyboard, etc. but the display on the Lap Dock remains black
- it seems that Windows is trying to enable the display at its native Full HD resolution, I can see it displayed in the display section of the Windows 10 settings
- but something must be wrong (the refresh rate, the DisplayPort data, whatever) and the Lap Dock ends up rebooting without having ever displayed anything on the screen (it remained black the whole time)
- and this sequences restart until the cable is unplugged, again and again and again...
I guess there must be an issue in the Windows 10 Intel Graphics driver that prevents it from configuring the HP Elite X3 Lap Dock properly as an external DisplayPort monitor.
My Lap Dock unit doesn't seem to be the issue, as it is working fine as an external DisplayPort display when wired to an HP Elite X3, a Lumia 950 or an LG G5.
Could you open a ticket with Intel as it is impacting a combination of two HP products, please?
Thanks,
Jérôme
P.S. It is also working fine wirelessly with these same devices and the above Elite X2 1012 G1 but I don't think this is relevant for the issue in the wired case.
