HP Spectre X360 15 yellow tinted display

Hello,

I've bought the Spectre X360 15 recently, about 2-3 weeks ago. Love the machine but the screen on mine is yellowish. I tried googling for a solution and while I found that I'm not the only one with this issue, I haven't really found an answer that helped me.

I tried Screen calibration. It did a bit of help, I made the whites to be a lot less yellowish, but it's still noticeable.

I've also downloaded an .ini from notebookcheck's review, but that didn't help me either.

Right now, I've changed my display profile to this:

While barely noticeable, the tint is still there.

HP Spectre x360 (US Model) - Cracked Screen - Repair UK (thus far with no joy)

Hi,

I purchased 2 HP Spectre x360 Convertable laptops in the US (Microsoft Store in Vegas).  I purchased this with a worldwide warranty as I live in the UK - "Yes, not an issue" I was told, you can get repaired anywhere in the world if something were to go wrong (unit purchased Sep 2016).

One unit has developed the same issue as decribed in the following post(s) [July 2017 - first contact with UK Support]:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/cracked-screen-on-spectre-x360/td-p/5112381

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Spectre-X360-screen-cracked/td-p/5801104

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Hp-Spectre-x360-cracked-screen-another-one-bites-the-dust/td-p/6384949

I contacted the UK Support whilst the unit was stil in the warranty period.  After back and forth I agreed on a paid repair for a reasonable cost, sent the unit off and waited patiently for the return.

About a week later, the cost for the repair was refunded and I received a very rude call saying the unit cannot be fixed and that is being returned.  When I queried what was the issue of why it could not be repaired, I was told it was end of service!!  This is on a unit < 12month old.

I then chased up for an explaination as to why it could not be repaired and eventually after many call/chat sessions I found out that due to the unit being a "US" model, the part cannot be obtained in Europe and therefore the repair was closes of as EOL (End of Life) - on a model that was < 12month old (and I have 2 of them, oh wow)!

Unfortunately the EMEA Support (Romania) seem not to have the level of powers required to help and are a messenger service for other departments, so getting any resemblence of information required multiple calls to get any form of a sensible answer.

This is after being told to check with the US if it can be repaired.  Well here is a story in itself ...

To be able to repair the unit (at a cost of $900+ USD), it requires that I live in the US with a residental US address, have a US registered Credit Card with which to pay for the repair!  Oh wow, not even an option now even if I wanted to ...

Of course, I could not believe that a worldwide company such as HP cannot ship the correct parts required around so I managed to escalate to EMEA  Customer Relations Team.

I nice fellow called "John" called me and appoligised, said he did a few days research across departments before contacting me to say that the required part, being specific to the US and not Europe, was on back order (straight from China) but he did not have a delivery time and all information required was in the below case where I should call back periodically and quote this number to the normal Support people.  Instructions were apparently left in the case with all the required details for the repair centre to see if the part was in, and that the unit would be repaired under the original conditions

Email from "John":

Dear Mr. Wilson,

As to our conversation; when you contact HP support again in the future, please provide the above case number to the agent. I have left instructions for them to contact the repair center to confirm the availability of the part, before arranging the repair.

Best regards,
John

[November 2017]

Well, here we are with mulitple calls, emails (to which no one responds, not even the friendly CRT "John"), escalations and again I am now receiving the old "It cannot be repaired, contact the US for an option" - aggggghhhhh (see above logic for a US repair).

Oh, and I have a new case number as apparently there was an upgrade to the system during this process.

Why does the CRT team say yes they can get the part but it is on backorder as it is not a "Europe" based part (granted and understood, but HP is a INTERNATIONAL company), then when I call the support agent cannot even see any details of what was "meant" to be in the Case?

Someone please help!  I am looking to draw digitally on my laptop (using Adobe Illustrator) and for the life of me I cannot find the right pen to go with my device.  In my computers settings, it says my device supports an active stylus  as it says, "pen and touch support with 10 touch points."

I appreciate the help, thanks.

Built in webcam/processor yielding low resolution video

I manage remote SMEs who are creating short instructional videos. Those with Windows 10, I instruct to use the built-in Windows Camera application to capture their live video, after which the SME sends the digital file(s) to my team for post-production and deployment.

Historically this has worked fine, but today I have encountered an insurmountable problem with one particular colleague. Their video is captured on an EliteBook, using the built-in HP webcam. The video being captured is 1280 x 720 and its audio is fine. However, the resolution of the image is extemely poor with a texture that is vaguely reminiscent of corduroy (vertically ribbed) and with a subtle effect of fine snowfall as the video plays. Something akin to a heavily downsampled and chunky YouTube video. No, this is not a lighting or staging issue, as we have done dozens of these with other stakeholders in the past with good results. The problem is not likely to be in the OS or in the Camera application for the same reason. My instinct is telling me that it is in the HP camera or with its onboard processor on the motherboard.

If anyone knows the root cause of this (especially if you happen to know a cure for it), I would really appreciate it.

Hp spectre webcam

Hello,

So I recently got a HP 360 Spectre i5 and while I was using skype I noticed that the colours captured by the webcam were different from reality: black would turn blue, red pink and so on. The quality is also very pixelated and generally not great. So my questions are: is this how it's supposed to be? If not, is it fixable? Do I need to get it repaired or do I just need to download a program of some sort?

I tried to look into reviews but webcams are rarely included in any kind of laptop evaluation.

Thank you in advance,

Lar

HP Envy Updates - now graphics are pixelated

$

Bought this computer in April, it had been running fine up until a month ago, it seemed to start bogging.  HP forum suggested that I do all of the updates in the HP support assistant.

I did ALL of the updates.

Restarted to find that my display and graphics in my design programs are all messed up and pixelated.

Do I need to go back to the restore point?

I was a bit wary about one of the updates as it was an Intel graphics card driver update when my computer has an Nvidia graphics card...strange?  Perhaps I should not have done that update, I just trusted that doing them all was going to help with whatever strange slow down was happening with my computer.

Hi! I cannot change the option "dual monitor" to "internal only" in the hp presentation of my PC. It means that my display is always being mirrored to another display? It happens only when my wifi is on, or even offline?
