The HDMI port for my laptop has stopped recognizing any HDMI cable that I plug into it. I know it's the port, because Windows 8 does not play the sound indicating that it has recognized the cable being plugged in.
I use it primarily for a second monitor, but I also regularly hook it up to monitors for work-related presentations. Therefore, it's a significant problem for me that the port has stopped working.
I've taken the following measures, all of which have been unsuccessful:
Plugged a different cable into the port
Rebooted the laptop
Re-installed the video driver
Left the cable plugged in on startup
Left the cable unplugged on startup
Tried different projection settings (duplicate, extend, second screen only)
Looked to see if I could fix the problem through the Intel graphics control panel. It shows two displays, built-in and Intel Widi.
Verified that the cable was properly attached to both the laptop and the monitor.
Tried to fix the problem through the Windows screen resolution dialog. While it shows what the resolution should be for a second monitor, it does not detect that one is attached.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
FYI, in case it's relevant, I have a problem on the other side of the laptop, too. The headphones jack stopped working. In this case, the jack does recognize that I've plugged something into it, but there's no sound.
Needless to say, I'm frustrated with this laptop. I've only had it since August, and I do treat it carefully.
