Triple monitors on Elitebook 850G3 with "2013 UltraSlim" docking station

I have the following setup:

  • Elitebook 850G3 running Windows 10 Pro.
  • Connected to an "2013 UltraSlim" docking station.
  • 2 external HP monitors (Elitedisplay E242 - 1920x1200).

I would like to extend my desktop on a third monitor. Naturally, this can be done simply by using the built-in 1920x1080 display in the laptop. My laptop is at a distance on my desk, where the built-in display becomes too small.

The docking station has two displayport connections, both occupied by the two E242 monitors. The extra VGA port is available, but I would like to take advantage of a digital video connection, if at all possible.

Question: Can I take advantage of DisplayPort 1.2 daisy-chaining functionality available on, for instance, the HP Z24nf monitor?

The idea is to connect this new monitor to one of the DP connections in the docking-station and chain this to one of the two existing E242 monitors. The last existing E242 monitor remains connected directly to the docking-station. Will this work? Does it require special support in the docking station?

I understand that I can no longer use the built-in display as the video card supports maximum 3xHD streams. Note that the HP Z24nf has a resolution of 1920x1080 - same as the built-in display.

Kofler

ELitebook 840 G3 - Docking/Undocking causes icon and text size changes

Running Windows 8.1 (64-bit) on an EliteBook 840 G3 and encountering a very strange issue when docking/undocking the system on a HP 2013 UltraSlim docking station.

Upon docking and transferring display to monitors, desktop icons and display text are absurdly large.

The reverse is also true. Undocking the system results in miniscule icons and text on the desktop.

Completely signing out fixes the issue, but my user does not wish to have to do this every time he docks/undocks.

I've already attempted to update every driver and firmware I could find as well as adjusting custom scaling options in display settings.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

P.S. - Display adapter is Intel HD Graphics 520

HP USB-C to VGA adaptor not working

I have an HP Envy (m6-aq105dx) running Windows 10 Home, and am trying to connect to a second external monitor via VGA cable (I already have one monitor hooked to the HDMI port). I purchased an HP USB-C to VGA adaptor (P7Z54AA#ABL), but when I hook it up, I get a repeating message pop-up: "Try improving the USB connection. DisplayPort connection might not work. Try using a different cable."

When I click on the message, I'm directed to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4012609/windows-10-fix-usb-c-problems#connectionlimited. This site says, "Solutions to try: Make sure your PC or phone, the external display, and the cable supports DisplayPort or MHL alternate modes."

How do I make this work? Why does it reference "DisplayPort or MHL" when it's a VGA adaptor??

I have a hp-pavilion p6130f ny463aa-aba, can I output to 3 separate monitors? using onboard n card?

I was wondering if it's possible to utililize the onboard graphics of the motherboard (ny463aa-aba) as well as the NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT to output to 3 different monitors?

I had read about enabling onboard graphics within BIOS but I don't appear to have that option, my bios version is "America Megatrends Inc. 5.15, 6/23/2009"

Thanks,

Problems Connecting Dual Monitors to Elitebook 840

I have the Elitebook running Windows 7 Enterprise. I also have a docking station if it matters. I am trying to connect two Samsung Model S24D300HL monitors. They will work individually but not together. I have connected through the D-Sub and the HDMI.  I have used an adapter to adapt one of the DVI ports to HDMI as well as used a cable that is DVI to HDMI. Any way that I connect, it will not let me use Dual Displays. I previously had it connected to a HP LA2405X and a LG 24M35H-B monitors.  I am not sure how or why the Samsungs wont work. Any ideas?

HP 15-f039wm HDMI port. Is it broken?

$

I currently own a HP 15-f039wm laptop, and have owned this perticular one for almost 2.5 years now.  Out of the blue the HDMI port on the laptop stopped functioning. I have tried 3 different cables, 2 tvs, and even a different HP laptop and found that this laptop is at fault. It is highly possible I messed something up in settings somewhere, but what are the odds that this port just died? It was a budget comp. to begin with ( personally I would have built my own desktop but it was a gift so I kept it) Over the course of it's long and painful life 2 keyboards, a power button, and the wifi card have died and had to be replaced. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the HDMI port was on the motherboard itself, unlike the right side USB and 3.5mm jack, which are attached via ribbon cable, and, as such, are easily replaced. Given this, I would like to try every possible fix software wise for this machine's issues, as I have given up almost with it. I won't pour too much money into this machine at this point, as it is becoming more trouble than it's worth. Which brings up another question- are there any upgrade paths for this machine? The cpu appears to be stuck in place with what appears to be acryllic, and it (obviously) doesn't have a PSU and a PCIex16 port for a graphics upgrade. I'll be moving on to a desktop soon so it doesn't matter if it doesn't have any, but it'd be nice to make this run at decent speeds with litteratly anything open. Thanks for the help!

Screen flickering on battery Spectre x360 13 (Kaby Lake)

Hi all, I have a problem with the screen on my spectre x360 13, Kaby Lake.

When the pc is on battery power, the screen flickers slightly (most noticeable on a grey background).

I updated the BIOS and the intel hd graphics driver today, but nothing changed. I previously disabled both the windows 10 adaptive brightness setting and the intel 'display power saving technology' setting, but no luck there either.

I'd be grateful if anyone might be able to help. Thanks a lot

Screen color problems with Pavilion x360 - no chance when I calibrate in settings

$

Hello,

I got my x360 Pavilion a couple of weeks ago and have notced that the colors on the screen are all wrong. The brightness has to be turned up to full to even see the screen, the contrast out and colours are reall dark, with light spaces washed out.

I've tried to calibrate in the control panel but the controls don't seem to do anything. The Gamma is right out, and doesn't change when I move the slider, there is no slider for contrast and the brightness is already on full.

Please help - I'm otherwise really enjoying the machine but can't do work on it as I do a lot of design and photo editing that is not coming out right at all!

Many thanks for your help

Jen

(Hoping its just a reset that needs doing!!)
